Blame the Bush Justice Department for no one being prosecuted for actually leaking the covert agent. But Libby lied to a Grand Jury, it was no railroad, it was just stupid. The other principals either told the truth or "could not recall", which may have been dishonest, but it was smart.

true, and this is a bad thing. we need to reframe the debate so that people with extreme views are no longer considered extreme. people wrongly assume that a view that strays from the current status quo is less worthwhile. people are too tied up in their own times, the current whims and perspectives. our founding fathers would weep if they saw how absurdly large and pointless our government is today.

this is why i will probably vote for ron paul, to at least bring his perspective a little respect. the dumbed-down mainstream, who are currently happy to toil under the oppression of out massive government need a reminder that it isnt all that crazy to want a little more power in your hands rather than the government overlords.

Let's see. We need to reframe the debate so that people with extreme views are no longer viewed as extreme. Ooooooookay. That did not work to well with Germany in the 30s.

I think the Founding Fathers would be very concerned about how big and intrusive government has grown, but I do not believe they would view it as being pointless.

The mass of Americans are dumb. Boy aren't you lucky to be one of the few intelligent elite. Americans are smarter than you give them credit for.

Whenever you try to pass judgement on an entire group by the actions of one person - or a few - you will always run into trouble.

yeah, you caught me, i meant we should adopt more nazi-like policies.

i am saying that a politician who favors massive reduction in the size of government shouldnt be considered extreme like he is today. now we quietly accept our fate and pay our obscenely high taxes and happily throw billions at stupid legislation and waste. huge government programs, that are not only not necessary, but actively hurt us, go unquestioned.

they thought the government that governs least governs best, and we have let that idea fall by the wayside, because people are dumbasses and they are constantly trying their best to turn over their responsibilities to the government. it is human nature, leaders want power, and we want to be saved. so over time, government grows. over time more and more bugaboos are introduced for us to be frightened of. immigrants, warming, non-free health care, outsourced jobs, whatever. all of it scaring us into legislating more power away from ourselves individually and more power to the collective. ethanol for example, we get ourselves in a panic, looking for a solution to our horrible fears regarding oil, so we stupidly push money into ethanol, which makes things worse in multiple ways.

i meant mainstream ideas of what is good in terms of politics. dumb. too many people do not understand the slightly counterintuitive idea that the government attempting to fix problems usually results in more problems than we had before.

rent control makes housing shortages, minimum wage creates unemployment, funding american farms makes food cost more, the average american doesnt understand this well enough. our politicians should be sophisticated enough to understand this, but we are dumbasses and we refuse to elect anyone who says anything a little different, and we start throwing around nazi references.

    ditto ditto ditto

Of course, the way politics are currently structured, that's a natural outcome. Key issues are dumbed down, and the bigger picture is marginalized in favor of marginal issues or concerns. The media and politicians key in on hot button items of concern to some folks, and think that their list of stances of such items constitutes a "platform." It's embarrassing, really.

I'm skeptical as to whether those quotes all came from Hitler, but if they did, he seems to have a good handle on our two party system.
