... but I would love to see a moderate candidate because I would vote for someone who didn't just conform to party lines, I consider myself a republican but I haven't liked the direction of the GOP recently on immigration and the patriot acts, and I am for abortion and stem cell research. I want a candidate who can think for himself and isn't just trying to win an election by going with his party but has a opinion on the issues and isn't afraid to voice them. A moderate will never win a bid or get elected but one can dream. But I think a moderate could unify the country and really do some good.
The Republicans have the stronger core of candidates this year. We may not agree with all their politics, but Romney, Guliani, McCain and Thompson are all capable of winning the nomination, and they are capable politicians. The Demos only seem to have Clinton as a candidate who fits these qualifications.
Sure they do. Bill Clinton was a moderate Democrat. George Bush 41 was a moderate Republican. Ronald Reagan ran as a conservative, but presided as a moderate. Even Carter and Nixon were not on the extremes of their parties' agenda.
I do believe Regan was governor of California for almost a decade before becoming president. The last political thing thompson did was work for the scooter libby defense fund.
So? Libby got railroaded. Nothing happened to Armstead who admitted he was the one who leaked the name of Plaume. And your response does not answer my question.
As a general rule it is the moderate conservatives or moderate liberals who stand the best chance of being elected because they appleal to the huge middle-class block of voters who tend to be moderates.
