The difference in bonus money between the top 5 picks is peanuts in the grand scheme of things, if Young wants to go he'll go, being the possible #1 overall pick won't make a difference IMO. I agree that he does not yet have the passing skills to be an NFL QB yet but hey, what do I know? As for Texas, RP and all of their recruiting stories I have this. My brother in law is a giant Horn fan and he blames MAC for the RP scenario playing out the way it did last year. According to him Mack put undue pressure on RP to commit earlier than he wanted to my telling him they would pull the offer and give it to another highly touted QB if he did not commit. Thus RP gave his verbal before he was really 100% sure, knowing that he could always change his mind. It works with the instate kids almost 100% of the time because of the pressure, but it didn't work with RP because he was getting more pressure to pick LSU instead of sticking with his pledge. He also said that is why Texas got so many early commits this year and he believes they will lose more than a couple of them come signing say, we'll see. With all of them being instate kids they may not.
There's got to be less than a 1% chance of that happening. It's so different for RBs, given the precarious nature of their jobs. He need look no further than Frank Gore as a reason to come out and get paid now. His stock cannot go any higher.
That's not exactly how most Horns would characterize it. While Mack does go for the early "solid" verbals, I doubt most other coaches are any different. No body likes having the rug pulled out from under them. As far as RP (who is mostly referred to as "Leon" or "Lie'yn" or Shirley Hemphill from the hit show What's Happening), no one faults a kid for wanting to compete for the starting job for the best College program in their home state, instead of Red-Shirting for a year behind Vince; they just wish he hadn't waited until the very last moment to make that choice clear to everyone (even though his actions at the All Star game made it pretty clear what was going to happen in the end). As far as the verbals that Texas has decommiting... well it could happen but no one can deny that Texas is (currently) perceived as one of the best programs in the country, so what exactly would make these kids want to run away from that? But the continued lack of signing a "home-run" Quarterback is a huge concern, and could very well bite them in the butt very soon.
I think VY may return, regardless the Heisman race or the MNC. Mack has a history of getting players to do that. As far as this year, and the impact of RP's defection, there are several games to go where VY could get hurt. If that were to happen (and I hope it doesn't as I like to watch him play), the paucity of talent in the backup QB ranks at Texas will be exposed. And it may not be pretty. :dis:
