That depends? Did they die in accidents due to someone else or their own actions? If it was because of someone else, then owning a car is irrelevant. If it was their own actions, then yeah they probably shouldn't have owned a car if they don't operate it properly.

I do love when people bring cars into a gun discussion because it offers the opportunity to introduce how automobile safety has increased over the years and led to fewer and fewer deaths as a direct result of regulations and legislation.

I don't get these gun law debates.

We can effectively rip up the constitution if we ban guns. Whether they make us less safe really isn't the point. Just a guise.

I mean think about it, if it was something they end up banning and people do not have a civil war over it, well, what does that do to the rest of the constitution?

How do people make the leap from "Hey, here is an obvious situation where guns make a propblem worse" to "They're trying to ban guns!"

Evel Knievel is impressed as hell with that jump...

I was referring to "epidemics" of deaths and the "vehicle" that ended a life. Intent was not the point; eliminating the means used, was.

There are plenty of regs and legislation on guns too. Even mandatory Hunter Safety classes now.
Just as drunk drivers will continue to take the lives of innocent people, as will nut jobs with guns.

I guess the same way people think putting more regulations on owning guns will stop the bad guys who buy them off the street from having them.

We have laws in place that should've stopped some of these mass shootings from happening. Soo, we already have laws in place that we can't keep up with, apparently. If we can't enforce the ones we already have, what makes people think more will be any different.

I've been around weapons and people my whole entire life and never once have I seen where a disagreement led to one person peeling out their weapon and killing another. Guns are only a tool, if it is in your heart to kill someone you will find a way to do it.

Law abiding citizens are the not the problem. dickhead lunatics are

So what? It happens every day and you know it whether you happen to be there or not.

Regardless of which side of the field one stands on this issue, the truth of the mater is that it's a very complex problem that does not have an easy solution.

Law-abiding gun owners don't want mass shootings, even though we want to keep our guns. Anit-gun people don't want mass shootings. I'm not sure how far they're willing to go.

As for Osama, he's just a political bitch. If he really cared about gun violence he'd talk about Chicago and black on black shootings too.

Every time there is a mass shooting people, even some gun rights supporters say "we can't just do nothing." and then liberals cry for a bunch of new laws that wouldn't stop a single mass shooting. Well, Texas did something.

And no, there won't be thousands of armed students walking around looking for a gunfight at OK Corral. The vast majority of students will opt not to carry firearms to class. Do you think Susie Sorority is going to suddenly turn into Bonnie Parker? And the Texas law limits the campus carry to concealed permit holders. One brave ex Army student charged the Oregon shooter. What if he had been armed? OK, it is possible that in the confusion of a mass shooting somebody might shoot a bystander. A tragedy yes, but less of a tragedy if the perp is brought down before the body count goes way up.

They could take it a step farther and create a Special Carry class of license. I mentioned this in another thread. To get the Special Carry license an applicant would not only have to undergo a background check but would have to demonstrate his or her proficiency in the use and safe handling of firearms and undergo a psychological evaluation to make sure there were no anger management problems. An make it a requirement for campus carry that the ammunition be hollow point bullets that break up inside the targets body instead of passing through and continuing on their path.

And no, @LaSalleAve , the carrying of a firearm doesn't indicate fear for one's life. It's just a precaution. When you go on a boat and have life preservers on board it doesn't mean you fear the boat will sink.

And @Jmg , in theory it sounds good to only carry $50 and a cheap cell phone but these days the robbers are all to likely to kill their victims even after they have handed over their goodies.

I have never seen even a fist fight on the campus of LSU or any other college except for in Tiger Stadium among drunk people. A few licensed people carrying concealed firearms isn't going to make a college campus resemble a biker bar in Waco. I have seen lots of fist fights in bars surrounding LSU.

And how do you know there aren't already people carrying concealed weapons to class? You don't. I would bet that there are some doing it now.

I disagree. You carry a firearm you are in fear that something could happen.
