A couple of things here Berge. One, remember the audience. I've seen stats thrown around a lot this week. The theme of of that piece was not "I think the LSU defense sucks" as you have characterized it. It was raising a question, in fact a couple, about some of the things I've seen written and heard mentioned throughout the last few weeks. As to your other points, scroll down and read this reply to one of my members who brought up some of the same questions you pointed out.
:hihi: I was just bringing you out of the woodwork. The bottom line is points scored. Bama fans are reaching for reasons to say that LSU isn't any good to reassure themselves they will win handily. The truth is that nothing they have done themselves show it. VT, USC, OM, and UT all hung around WAY too long against Bama. They all have two things in common: mediocre offenses, good defenses.
I got a PM indicating you'd found the piece on al.com and also a question if I knew who was responding to this thread. I responded, "everyone except SabanFan." opcorn: Curiosity got the best of me—had to look. Win handily? Only a few cases of either team doing that over the last decade. Personally, I suspect it'll be a close game. I do have a few questions about your defense. But, questions don't automatically lead to a factual opinion, ya know? I see some mention Florida here. But, I also see that an Arkansas defense held them to 23 the next weekend...IN the Swamp. UF went to Starkville and seemed to be getting their legs back underneath them a bit. Again, the UF game just has a myriad of questions surrounding what happened in BR. A good team is supposed to beat Tulane in the fashion LSU did. No offense to Deceks, but I'm not sold on Malzahn and the Auburn offense at all at this point. Arkansas, who isn't good on defense, held them scoreless for what, 45 minutes plus in their game? Now... I like our chances in this game for a few reasons. I suspect our offense will do better against your defense than your offense will against ours. I don't consider Tulane to be a true indicator of offensive improvement. And, going back to Auburn again, there are some questions on their defense as well—questions that dwarf mine on the Tiger defense. I like the fact this team got a rest last week—it was needed badly. Heck, RoMac was commenting as late as Thursday (before UT) he didn't have his legs back. There's a few more...but, I'm sure for everyone I list you'll have a counterpoint. Heck, I wouldn't expect less.
Welcome back for Bama week Terry. This one is different from the last 10 or so in that Bama is favored by 9. You should like your chances. But LSU has been improving through the season and this could be the game we play fully up to our potential on offense. If so, we win.
I was pretty suspect on them, to be honest I didn't like the scheme... in the last 3 weeks or so they have been coming with the blitz a ton more. If they can get more pressure on the QB then I will be happy. I honestly didn't like the defense at the beginning of the year because of the scheme. It looks like they are doing some adjusting which has helped. I would say the schemes they were using in the beginning of the year sucked, they need to continue to take more risks. The players definitely have tons of talent. I think this week will be a good test.
im saddened anyone believes this. and that HSV HIV whatever mod there is such an embarrassment (the very few times I happened upon that site) wielding his authority stick so ridiculously to opposing fans, id never allow him to post on my site. a flat-out joke. if only i had the desire to remember the examples. im sure tb3 could share quite a few. those gumps who post here are the two-faced ones you try to avoid. the above reason is why you should really hate bama. they almost never have anything good to say about LSU even when on top. they pretend to be your friend here then degrade everything that is LSU behind your back. spineless lowlife cowards. avoid that minority at all costs. if you go to tuscaloosa and tailgate with the masses you will find much better people. at least the 4 or 5 times ive been. always a good time. just dont trust those scumbags who fit the above example.
TerryP - good to see your posts, don't leave after the LSU/Bama game, hang around and share your thoughts - always enjoy reading them. ldskule:
I think it is a mistake to scoff at LSU's steady improvement as the season progresses. They have improved. Perhaps not enought to beat Bama at home, but areal improvement. I do not make the mistake of thinking Bama cannot score much against LSU just because they average only one TD a game for the last month. Stick around. Don't let the local Hitler Youth upset you.
