I agree with NLMD and Chaos. Besides, even if people tried to sweep stuff under the rug, the victim's friends and family would make sure everyone knew. Like Dvorcek at OU. Neither ou officials, law enforcement, or the DA said anything about it, but a friend of the kid who got put into the hospital by that thug called the press in town and informed them of the "incident". When something happens, someone from the side getting the arse kicking is gonna talk.
Exactly. You can count on one hand the number of major off-the-field misconduct incidents that took place involving LSU football players during Saban's five years here. In fact, I am aware of only two; the brawl at West Campus Apartments in 2003 that involved football and basketball players and the domestic incident with Melvin Oliver last summer. Our grad rates and team GPA also improved significantly, because Saban made recruiting young men of good character a high priority. A winner tends to win in all facets of his life, on and off the athletic field. This problem is not new to Tennessee; they've had serious incidents like this perenially as long as Fulmer has been there. There have been allegations of NCAA violations and inappropriate benefits to players (and without Roy Kramer's benevolent hand of protection, it is only a matter of time before they get caught at something) and their football program's graduation rate has been in the single digits for years. And yet, as long as the program continues to win, Volunteer Fan is okay with it, and says nothing. But let the program slip to two losing seasons in a row, or even go several years without a trip to the SEC Title Game, and then they scream for his head. Don't get me wrong, when Tennessee falls far (and they are slipping right now), and Fulmer gets the ax, they'll say that the discipline issues and the poor academics were "a factor" in making the decision. Don't be fooled; as long as the program was on top of the world in the late 90s, those issues were irrelevant. Only now that the Volunteers are no longer a perennial Top 10 team is it starting to become an issue. Also, Volunteer fans are fools if they think what happens off the field won't affect on-the-field performance. DiNardo thought the same thing. And in 1999, the chickens came home to roost.
Yes, LSU has had relatively few incidents since Saban came on board and hopefully Miles will continue to stress character issues when recruiting and after they get here. We can add the Doucet incident to Saban in my opinion but that is still a very good track record.
Jim Bob Cooter and Rocky Hinds (backup QB at USC) have to be the funniest names in college football. :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
I, for one, have been impressed with Richt's police work at UGA (though not great but not bad either, imo) and from what Meyer says so far seems to make me think he could end up being a tight-ass. Fulmer on the other hand....good grief what a tool. The guy sweeps everything under the cover unless it is pure national media material and even then just makes the guy run or something pointless
Lets see he suspended the players for the remaining two practices and will not allow the players to participate in the spring game. There you go fat phil, now that is how you punish players. what an absolute joke. Give me a break.:angryfire For something that stupid, if i was the coach they would be suspended for a quater of the season. That might get me fired but by god my teams will behave off the field. And then only those players would drop to the practice squad and then work there ass on up.
