If you were the AD, how would you schedule these teams with an 11 game regular schedule? Would you only have 6 home games every other year? Would you do like VT ... schedule and home and home, then cancel on the back end? Inquiry minds want to know...
While I understand the 7 home games argument, the fact is that many top programs do not play 7 home games each year. Notre Dame rarely, if ever, plays 7 at home. Nebraska currently only has 5 home games scheduled for next year with only one TBA (presumably at home) left. Texas A&M has been playing some away OOC games lately (at Va. Tech this year), etc., etc. Perhaps the new "LSU Vision" can make up for some of the loss of revenue from having 6 instead of 7 home games. Obviously other schools make due with less.
Having this 7th home game is sort of like tax increases .... once you got it in place, you don't give it up! LOL I don't know what the answer will be, but I know everyone is getting sick of playing 3 cupcakes each year ... and with the increase ticket prices, we'll be paying alot of money for only 3 or 4 good home games!
I guess since VA Tech dropped the game so late, (pretty cowardly of them), maybe thats all we can end up with is a division I-AA or a weak I-A. I used to like the A&M series alot. Got a good feel for the team right out the gate. I was liking that AU Vs. USC matchup to start the season off, not just because AU got smoked but I look forward to a great college football matchup at the start of the season. It also takes balls to schedule a home & home with a team with a rich tradition for a first game. Most of the SEC could hang 50 pts plus on these cup cakes so you dont know where the team is at.
Another thing to note is that we don't have to play on 9/4. We are open on 9/25 and 11/7, so we still have some room to shuffle dates and find someone to play. Hopefully we can get something worked out soon.
I would rather see a game on 9/4. If we scheduled a game on 9/25, we would have Houston, @Auburn, TBA on 9/25, @UGA, @Florida, MSU, and Troy State without a bye. Then again, maybe that wouldnt be too bad. We can assume MSU and TSU will both be bad, and that TBA will probably be from a mid-major, at best. That would give us only 2 back to back tough road games instead of 3. Then we would get a bye before finishing up Vanderbilt, Alabama, Ole Miss, and @Arkansas.
I'm furious with Va. Tech. They scheduled us last year, then put in a last-minute cupcake game the week before us to sharpen their claws--instead of us both playing our first games. Now this debacle! I'm sick of hearing about Strength of Schedule concerns when teams can back out of contracts on us--especially on the BACK end of a home and home! Cowards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
