I'm not judging...I'm comparing his rate of success in comparison to Vick at this point... Vick has done more in his career in terms of what matters most in the NFL...THE PLAYOFFS... Stats, All-Pro, leading the league in this, that, and the other...That don't mean squat... But, I don't mean to say that Peyton's not one of the best, if not THE best-quarterback in the NFL. I think he is. But, I think that Michael Vick, when healthy, is the best PLAYER in the NFL...He's not Peyton Manning, but he never will be...He's just a "mold breaker"...Like a Jim Brown type...Just a guy that redefines the position... For anyone who says that Vick throws for 100 yards every game... Hell, man...He's played TWO games this year, and if you think both his legs are at 100%, you're smoking rope...
PUBLIC AWARENESS ANNOUNCEMENT-I AM NOT SAYING THAT MICHAEL VICK IS IN JIM BROWN'S CLASS. I'M COMPARING HIS IMPACT ON THE LEAGUE WITH THAT OF JIM BROWN'S.
I'm not saying that he isn't a good QB. I am saying that he can't play QB like he did in college or the beginning of the year. He's already got hurt once. Kinda like Matt had to become a better passer because of his injury. He's going to have to become less of a runner or he will have a short career or injured all the time or both. The NFL and its schedules will not allow Vick to do his thing like he's accustomed too. The League is way to hard on the body for him to play his style. So he will become a regular QB.
Vick is going to revolutionize the way the qb position is played. Many thought Culpepper, Mcnair, and so on would be able to do it, but they have all failed to meet this expectation. Vick is an all around athlete, a much better runner than passer IMO. ATL will be a force to reckon with WHEN they spend some cash on 2 more WRs that are good. Peerless Price was a great start, but they need a Stallworth or Reggie Wayne there as well to really open it up for Vick. I personally would take a Steve Young or Brett Favre before Vick. Those guys have shown me they really want to win and be the best at their positions.
i think Vick is possibly the best athlete in the NFL, but i dont think he's the best QB. JMOT cant believe i forgot about Steve Young....i think he's better than Vick too.
The year Marino went the the Superbowl was his second pro season in 1984. He passed for over 5000 yards and 50 TDs that year. For Marino's entire career the Dolphins had no running game. Every year they would try to draft or trade for a decent running back and every year Don Shula would announce that the Dolphins were committed to establishing the run at the beginning of the season. Then they would totally abandon all pretense of a running game and it was up to Marino to do it all. When Shula retired Jimmy Johnson wanted to trade Marino and start fresh the way he built up the Cowboys but the Dolphins owner wouldn't let him do it and the Miami offense continued in the same vein as before. At the time there was some talk of trading Marino to the Steelers. It would have been perfect for Marino because at the time the Steelers had a great running game and a good defense but no QB worth a damn. Dan Marino is probably the greatest pure passer in the history of the NFL but he was a victim of his own greatness because his coaches relied on him too much without seriously commiting to building a solid running game to take the pressure off of him. For those of us who love to watch Michael Vick in action enjoy it while you can. He is the most exciting player in the NFL but he risks serious injury on each and every passing play. If Vick survives long enough to be surrounded by Superbowl quality talent he might develope as a Hall of Fame QB. Look for Peyton to get his first playoff win or two this year but the Road to the Superbowl goes through Gillette Stadium in Foxboro. The Patriots are not the most talented team in the NFL but they are playing better than anybody else and Tom Brady comes though in the clutch. Maybe Gillette Stadium is the new "Frozen Tundra"
have to REALLY disagree with your opinion on Marino...the guy was amazing. come back and talk to me when Vick is accountable for over 5,000 yards of offense and 50 touchdowns in one season....its not gonna happen Marino career passing statistics YEAR TEAM G GS AT CMP PCT YDS TD INT RAT 1983 Miami NFL 11 9 296 173 58.4 2,210 20 6 96.0 1984 Miami NFL 16 16 *564 *362 64.2 *5,084 *48 17 *108.9 1985 Miami NFL 16 16 567 *336 59.3 *4,137 *30 21 84.1 1986 Miami NFL 16 16 *623 *378 60.7 *4,746 *44 23 92.5 1987 Miami NFL 12 12 444 263 59.1 3,245 26 13 89.2 1988 Miami NFL 16 16 *606 *354 58.4 *4,434 28 23 80.8 1989 Miami NFL 16 16 550 308 56.0 3,997 24 22 76.9 1990 Miami NFL 16 16 531 306 57.6 3,563 21 11 82.6 1991 Miami NFL 16 16 549 318 57.9 3,970 25 13 85.8 1992 Miami NFL 16 16 *554 *330 59.6 *4,116 24 16 85.1 1993 Miami NFL 5 5 150 91 60.7 1,218 8 3 95.9 1994 Miami NFL 16 16 615 385 62.6 4,453 30 17 89.2 1995 Miami NFL 14 14 482 309 64.1 3,668 24 15 90.8 1996 Miami NFL 13 13 373 221 59.2 2,795 17 9 87.8 1997 Miami NFL 16 16 *548 *319 58.2 3,780 16 11 80.7 1998 Miami NFL 16 16 537 310 57.7 3,497 23 15 80.0 1999 Miami NFL 11 11 369 204 55.3 2,448 12 17 67.4 Pro totals (17 years) 242 240 8,358 4,967 59.4 61,361 420 252 86.4 * led NFL. Thanks Bengal B and Eleven. I appreciate the support I just hope TE comes back to the post and not run away from reality like I think he will do.
I'll throw in my 2 cents: Dan Marino = best NFL QB ever Mike Vick = guy I want running my team today if I owned an NFL team
