The sole advantage of being a bottom tier team, not tradition and no fame, no beloved uniform to deface.

The Ducks change theirs so often, they ruin the word uniform (at least the adjective form of the word). I look at their gameday apparel as more of a costume than a uniform.

Unfortunately, TCU doesn't have a billionaire Daddy Warbucks type to give it the facade of respectability.

Oregon's uniforms are shiny recruiting lures, and they work well.

    Change,.. is who we are.

TCU probably has multiple billionaires taking care of them. This is Dallas we are taking about, which has double the people of states like Louisiana, and has one of the highest concentrations of corporate headquarters in the United States (Exxon, AT&T, Southwest Airlines, and many others). Plus, TCU is a school rich people send their kids to, plus TCU is one of the most successful football programs over the last 12 years. Add it all up, and TCU football isn't hurting for money compared to most, which is a big reason given why Gary Patterson is never leaving

For ex, Sports Business Now wrote this last year:

"TCU has managed to do something remarkable...raised $164 million to renovate their 82-year-old stadium without incurring a bit of debt. Perhaps this is a feat that could only be accomplished in northern Texas, where the football money seems to flow from the earth with the oil. TCU has taken advantage of their wealthy benefactors and raised more than $90 million in contributions to renovate the football stadium... the team was mandated by the university to raise the money for the stadium renovations without incurring debt tied to the selling of bonds...Additional gifts of $1 million to $5 million...helped the school reach its total number of $164 million."

And the article compares how TCU did compared to other schools that recently HAD TO SELL BONDS to raise funds to improve their stadiums:

"Other schools that have had recent stadium renovations:

University of Arizona : Arizona Stadium ...The project was funded through donations, in addition to $60 million in bonds and revenue generated by the new Pac-12 Network.

Washington State University : ...WSU sold $80 million in bonds to finance the addition, which will be paid by TV revenue.

University of Washington : Husky Stadium ...Project funding is split among $50 million in private donations and $200 million financed through the sale of 30-year bonds.
    ...
University of Nebraska : Memorial Stadium will see an expansion ... The $63.5 million project has incredibly already been paid off from donations."

Depends on how far up the Forbes list they go and their level of commitment. Papa Phil has either paid or pledged a total of $230M to date towards his alma mater, including $30M he put up all by himself toward renovating Autzen.

    Gary Patterson:

“I think both teams, to be honest with you, with as young as we are (don’t want) to have this ball game as the first game. Both teams are pretty young, but it is what it is.”

(TCU returns 8 starters on offense and 9 on defense, pretty much the opposite of green)
