Yes and no I think.... I read TCU had an offensive motto of "Pass to score and run to win". Seems to be up Miles' offensive philosphy alley (mine too). Fuentes seems like a good coach; solid up-and-coming coach. I just wonder if he's got enough experience to pursuade Miles that he can handle the job in a tough conference? Also, I don't know all he details surrounding Billy Gonzales (i.e. passing coordinator vs QB coach), but I would hope our next OC would have some experience coaching up QB's... a task that we've sort of suffered from since Jimbo left.
I think Fuente has shown he can coach a QB. He played QB in college so he understands all that comes with the position. At Illinois St. he coached the QB to all-conference honors and the QB led the league in passing. The Illi St offense ranked in the top 10 nationally while he was OC/QB coach. We know that TCU QB Andy Dalton had a very good year being coached by Fuente. Chip Kelly only had one year as an OC before being hired by Oregon as OC and that was at tiny New Hampshire. One year as OC at Oregon, then promoted to HC and took his team to the NCG. Crowton showed that experience isn't everything. Sometimes all a guy needs is a chance. Fuente seems to be an outstanding candidate and I think he would be a great hire.
YAY! more controversy between Miles and his OC ... i want a pro style guy so we at least know the HC and OC are on the same page. i'm sure fuentes is great, but just not married to miles.
This would be a great hire. I don't know what the Billy G thing is. He was passing game co and didn't do a very good job at all.
Why do some of you think he couldn't handle the competition.? If we scored 17 more points this year we would have been playing in Glendale. The offense doesn't have to do it alone. Defense and ST will be solid, just need some consistency on offense.
Technically speaking, Fuente ran a spread offense. Spread offenses are defined by the QB taking most of the snaps in a shotgun formation. While Dalton did take a lot of reps from shotgun, he also took a lot from under center and TCU stressed a downhill running game. TCU didn't really have a big O-Line, so running the spread helps the fact that they're not dominant blockers.
