I used to compete in karate tournaments and @tirk is right, it's a different animal. I've played lots of "sports" in my life and the two that kicked my ass the most were karate and motocross racing. I don't care how much you run, or work out, if you don't train specifically for those events you will not make it. These two disciplines will suck the wind out of you faster than you think and a couple of minutes feel like a lifetime. From my experience both use the larger muscle groups in your body and that is what depletes your oxygen supply. I've actually prayed for a round to be over. Try hitting and kicking a heavy bag for 3 minutes or run a bike on a track for 30 minutes + 2 in 95 degrees and you'll know.

I ride a lot of enduro on my dirt bike. When I tell people how physically exhausting it is they just look at me. Hard to explain.

Next to Curly Hallman, Johnny Jones was the worst hire in the history of LSU athletics. Speaking of disasters, how is 'Mrs Fargas' doing over in the other locker room? I guess I could check for myself but my overall disinterest in the budget drain known as women's collegiate sports prevents me from doing so.

It is stupid hard. Its exhausting just riding trails and whatnot, the courses that those dudes ride supercross on will literally beat the shit out of you. You feel like you've been in a fight and gotten your ass beaten by a gang.

@shane0911 as much as I like supercross and I go often during the season, outdoor nationals are something to watch. Motocross gave birth to supercross and it is unreal the stamina these guys have. My son and I try to go to at least once every year and it is hot just as a spectator. These guys are on another level when it comes to fitness. We had an amateur that used to run at our track and he could lap the fastest guys there. He would try out for the nationals and get lapped by the slowest guys there. In turn the elites like Kevin Windham, Ricky Carmichael, and Bubba Stewart would lap those guys. It just goes to show you how well trained these guys are. I raced in the Baton Rouge Centraplex as a youngster and I hung on for about 5 laps before the better guys started creating distance on me. I think I finished somewhere in the mid pack for my skill level. Every one is close for a couple laps, but the pros run their 20th lap as fast as their 1st and that's where the separation is. They hire trainers to keep their heart rate constant for long periods of time and that's why they can hang on to their bikes at that pace and not drop lap times. That's why they say most sports require one ball and motocross requires two. My son CajinKid was fearless as a youngster, then he met his wife and edge went out the window. You really have to respect all these athletes who train for their sport, most spectators have no idea how hard it is at that level.

I can't speak for others because I have no personal experience with other forms. I played baseball and basketball in school, along with racing and karate outside of school. From my experience the form of racing I did and karate where tougher than the other two. I'm sure some do not consider racing a sport and my post was not to defend it as such, just clarifying the level of commitment to training it takes to be successful.

Free style x games required judges and is therefore not a sport right? Just a display of skill?
