Judges or not, a sport is something you compete in. The actual act is a sport.

And its not subjective at all really when you understand how they are judged. I had no clue, but my wife was high level and is a coach so I understand now as I watch my daughters. I cant do half the shit they can do. Wish I could!

 

Not subjective you say. I wonder if you've ever watched Olympic boxing? But then according to @Bengal B boxing can't be a sport because it has judges.

 

You think there are no "judges" in football or baseball? In baseball, every pitch is "judged" and in football every play is also. Do I need to spell it out?

Boxing is a sport because there is the possibility of a knockout at any time, rendering the judges opinion moot. Anybody who has followed boxing at any time can point to some bogus decisions by judges but a KO is a KO

 

In those sports every play and every pitch is recorded by the cameras and is instantly available for the opinion of millions of viewers. If a judge carries homerism too far everybody will know what he's up to. And you win or lose depending upon outscoring your opponent. A referee who nullifies every touchdown by a team will soon be banished to Russia and made to judge gymnastics.

Not saying that gymnastics doesn't require the development of great physical skills but I defy you to watch gymnastics and pick the winner without hearing it from some judge. Unless you automatically pick the girl with the biggest boobs or best ass
