http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_dbf9a26c-f7a4-11e6-be8c-23ceaa7006b9.html Women's basketball lost $4M? I'm also surprised that basketball out earned baseball. Must be due to TV revenue.
Those profits/losses pretty much mirror what you see in high school athletics too. Not in terms of dollars but football is the cash cow.
I didn't even know we had a beach volleyball team. $528K for expenses? Where do they play their games? Hawaii? Solution: Hotter players in thongs and tiny tops showing lots of cleavage, beer and for God's sake use cheaper sand.
Yea some of that is ridiculous on the cost of things. Would be cool to see this in a few years after the SEC network is ran for a bit.
I don't know but the gymnastics team draws a pretty good crowd and still only took in $272K so apparently not. Since so many people play golf they could probably increase revenue by corporate sponsorship. -- The Chevrolet Trucks Keep on Truckin' Open, etc. Get first the SEC Network then all of ESPN to go along with it and do features on the up and coming best golfers and PGA tour future. Have some kind of a points system with the top 50 college golfers playing for the first NCAA major ending at Augusta National
Isn't the golf team good? Along with gymnastics and softball. You would think they would be creative and earn some cash.
Years ago I worked a few tournaments a year for CBS as a spotter/scorer. The production costs to get a golf telecast on the air are significant. And that's the PGA Tour. I think ESPN telecasts the NCAA tournament. Beyond that it doesn't make economic sense.
