Amen. That's the way it's supposed to be. Growing up in Texas with an Aggie for a Dad, I learned good sportsmanship at the butt end of a million or more Aggie jokes. Of course, those Aggies were pretty good at dishing out trash on the Teasippers, too.

But it was all in good fun, as it should be.

I wish we could get a USC / LSU game scheduled some day before we're all too old to watch it!

I love aggie jokes! My dad used to send them to me daily back in the day. Guess he got a life. :nope:

In the 90's, OSU was only ranked #1 in a poll during the early part of the 1998 seasom. In the 2000's, the first time OSU was #1 in the polls was when they upset Miami in the 2002 NC. Even after that, they wouldn't be ranked #1 until the beginning of 2006. They stayed at #1 the whole season last year until they lost to Florida in the NC. Had Ohio State not had any quality opponents during the regular season last year, I might have hated them, but they played two of the best teams in college football during the regular season last year -- Texas (Big 12) and Michigan (Big Ten), and beat both of them. As for this year, OSU has only spent five weeks at #1.

As for LSU, they haven't been ranked #1 during the regular season since the late 50's. Sure, we won a share of the #1 spot by beating Oklahoma in the BCS NC at the end of the 2003 season, but even after that, we wouldn't be ranked #1 until this year. And we only spent four weeks at #1 this year.

The teams that people hate are those teams like the '04 and '05 USC teams that were ranked #1 every single week of both years. Or the '01 and '02 Miami teams that were ranked #1 every single week of both years. I mean that what made the 2002 NC game so great, because OSU finally ended Miami's two-year #1 streak. And that's what made the 2005 NC game so great, because Texas finally ended USC's two-year #1 streak.

OSU was ranked #1 in 1998 up until the late October loss to Michigan State. They've also finished in the top 5 enough times in the last 12-15 years to generate plenty of dislike. Plus, there's the whole northern/southern, SEC/Big Ten talk.

But it's all good. Better to do well and be a topic of conversation than sink into oblivion like Notre Dame and be the butt of jokes.

Here's today's email conversation with my USC "friend" in San Fran Condom fan in bold:

Well, he begged, pleaded and groveled his way into the NC game. Pathetic.

Don’t lose to a 41 point dog at home and you’re in the game.

I’m not talking about USC, Oklahoma deserved to be in it before LSU. LSU lost to an unranked team, AT HOME, the next to last week of the season. Miles cried about having to play a Conference Championship game and they barely (read struggled, in fact Tenn threw the game away) beat a pathetic, and you know this is true because you said it yourself earlier this year, Tennessee team. LSU was #7 and Tenn was #14

Oklahoma #9 beat the #1 ranked Missouri team soundly. Hmmm, #9 beats #1 and #7 beats #14, how does that work. They can take the C out of BCS.

Tennessee was ranked. Oklahoma can’t say that about their two losses to Colorado and Texas Tech. LSU beat 5 ranked (now) teams and beat Va. Tech by 41. The computers killed Oklahoma because they had a weak schedule. LSU lost 2 in triple OT with more injuries to key personnel than anyone in the country. We beat Tennessee with a backup QB with one start to his credit and Dorsey out, not to mention having already lost a starting defensive lineman and our best wide receiver. Don’t cry about the system because it didn’t work for you. Petey parlayed that into a fake NC in 2003.

It took you all day to come up with this weak mess. Nobody is crying. This isn’t about USC. My argument is clear about that. I said that Tenn was ranked, #14. If Tenn had just a decent qb, you lose. By the way, Perilloux is going to be your starter next year, and I’ve seen him play several times this year, so don’t try to make it sound like it’s the first time he’s been on the field. If you want to whine about playing a backup, OK doesn’t lose to Tech without Bradford getting hurt, and they still almost won the game. Everyone has injuries. Regarding the begger, Michigan comes out the big winner. No wonder Pete out-recruits him every year. It’s a shame you won’t be playing a good team like OK.
