yep thats why I hate most MLB managers.... they're always saving their best closer and bring in scrub middle relievers when game is still on the line. Even in playoffs. Torre will bring in Rivera whenever, wherever.
Some aren't made to go 2 innings tho. Rivera is one of the few that do it on a consistent basis. That's why when all is said and done, I will place him as the best closer of all times. And of course, he is lights out in the post season, with only 2 blown saves, and one of them caused by an error by Scott Brosious and the weakest game winning hit in World Series history by Luis Gonzales.
True...BUT with Perno you never know what you are going to get. His recruiting is average and he pulls starters TOO early many times. Granted, our SP today had shoulder stiffness but he steals too much (in the past at least) and makes some bonehead decisions other times. He did it plenty this year but got away with it thanks to Morris, Smith, and Startup. I like the guy.....but he is still questionable at times.
Southlink man, Startup is awesome. To hold LSU scoreless for 5 innings in the SEC tourney, you got something special there. You guys might be able to ride his back pretty far.
It's called knowing your personnel. Look at Van Horn at Ark. Scott Hode was 2 for his last 38. Going with his gut, he puts him cleanup and he's 3-3 so far.
