Gotta disagree with you there, lsujay. Liuzza's got a mean oyster poyboy. I think it's on Bienville near Jeff Davis. Jack Dempsey's got this thing called the Super Seafood Platter. Must be stacked 6 inches high with fried shrimp, oysters, catfish, and crabcakes. I forget where Jack Dempsey's is, tho. Suppose you'd have to look it up.
NJTiger, Tony Angelo's is some good stuff. I live right down the street from it. heh. Only been there twice tho.
Tony Angello's Definitely a "find" that most people don't know about--no advertising and no name outside but inside VERY VERY busy and an absolutely wonderful place--price is reasonable given the amount and type of food. Can't be beat!
Going to G.W.Fins tonight for only the second time. Last time I was there it was excellent. It's in the quarter, so you could walk there if you're staying downtown. Buy a Zagat guide because there are so many good restaurants in New Orleans that there is no way all of them will be mentioned in this thread.
Jack Dempsey's is toward the end of Poland Ave. in the heart of the Ninth Ward (READ - BAD neighborhood). It's right across the street from the Industrial Canal which is where Ignacious Reilly worked in Confederacy of Dunces (different neighborhood back then). Great food - just be sure to be VERY CAREFUL. Carrying a fully loaded, fully automatic AK-47 wouldn't hurt.

You've obviously never tried Mike's Fried Seafood Platter... the catfish is to die for and that's only the fourth best item on the plate... Stuffed Crab... Stuffed Shrimp... Fried Crawfish... Fried Shrimp... Onion Rings... Fried Oysters... Fried Hush Puppies... and a Stuffed Potatoe to top it all off... what more can you ask for... Take my word for it... It's the best Seafood around... I'm not talking about Mike's on the Riverwalk... (it's good, but just a satelite eatery)
I've never eaten at Mike Anderson's in New Orleans but I eat at the one in Baton Rouge a couple of times a month. Most of their food is very good but not great -Not world class. Stuffed Crab, done right is one of my favorite things to eat. Unfortunately Mike uses more fillers than crabmeat in the stuffed crab. To be honest it is not too much better than the frozen stuffed crabs you can buy in a grocery store for 99 cents apiece in the frozen food section. The fried seafood is adequate but is a little too heavily breaded and not fried to the degree of crispness that I prefer. The seafood gumbo is very good but if you go to Mike's the best thing on the menu is the broiled red snapper topped with lump crabmeat. It is very good despite the disapointing fact that a restaurant of Mike Anderson's reputation uses margerine in the creation of their sauces instead of real butter. If your are in Baton Rouge by all means eat at Mike Anderson's but if you are in New Orleans you can do a hell of a lot better.
