Took the kids and wife to ship island to let em swim around with a few friends yesterday. Kids were playing on their kayaks and I was just standing in the bow looking at the water critters swimming around. Started seeing big schools of ground mullet aka whiting aka gulf kingfish and had to get after em. Me and the wife stood there fishing right under the kids and put 171 of em in the box. Big suckers too. Maybe half of em in the pic.
They are cannabalistic little bastards. One time I caught so many I ran out of dead shrimp so I cut up a few of the ground mullets for bait and kept on catching.
dead shrimp just dropped on their heads in 2ft of water gin clear water. See a wad of em under the boat, drop a double rig shrimp in em and swing 2 of them over the side over and over and over again. Kids were sitting there in the kayaks playing around trying to hit them with their paddles.
Really just ain’t done much. Between running my side business and trying to keep that sucker in check since it’s trying to run away with me and I have hard time turning jobs down, tending the garden, going on a few vacations, and the usual kid/wife/family stuff just ain’t been been much fishing stuff to post. Bout to get back right though got the side work scaled back to school days amounts and all the nonsense stuff is done. Garden pretty well harvested and the doves are showing up. Gator season bout to kick off along with football then it’ll be bow season and fall fishing in full swing before you know it. Best time of year just over the horizon
