oh and the whole "kids today" rants I have read on this thread are totally ridiculous. Just like those "kids" were out of control while cheering on Elvis, right? Every generation thinks they know what morals should or shouldn't be, and they don't like it when the next generation challenges those norms. I'm not condoning the F-Bomb in chants, but don't make it into something bigger than it is.
At least they didn't act like Bama's student section and throw all kinds of crap at the Ga. Bulldogs.
the "you suck, cocks" cheer is obviously a necessity anytime you play south carolina. to not do it would be a travesty. similar cheer is in order for dick vitale when he isnt behind the basketball team enough.
None taken. I totally agree but the generation I am refering to is the one that fought WWII, thus dubbed The Greatest Generation. Ok first off I am only 29 I am sure after my post y'all think I am some old man that screams at passing cars. My opinions are from what I have seen, and there is a COMPLETE lack of self respect and an understanding of what moderation is. Is that completely your fault, not completely but in the end you are your own person. The generation between mine and the baby boomers are the ones to blame. Because it was the first generation to use the Tv as a baby sitter or a way to not be bothered by their kids. These opinions come from coaching youth soccer and watching parents drop off the kids, late picking them, up and NEVER coming to a game. It also comes from what I saw being a 26 year old going through basic training. Students will be students and yes I did some stupid crap when I was in high school and college, but even in the face of stupidity I KNEW where that line was and I knew what would happen if I was to cross that line. To me it seems that the kids this days either have never had that line in place for them, OR (and this is the worse) They just dont care.
I thought LSU fans responded in a wonderful way when the players, coaching staff and University leaders appealed to the fans for respecting Virginia Tech fans on game day. Maybe it's time for the same type of appeal to go out to the student section. I believe it has to be a few drunks leading a lot more drunks to get these classless chants going. I have to believe there are student leaders who can take charge during the games to put a lid on this getting out of hand. We need to realize the nation is focusing on our University and Football program right now. We need to weed out the bad behavior jerks that can cast a bad light on LSU. Did the fact that we were playing Spurrier's "Cocks" with an empty stadium in the 4th quarter have anything to do with this?
Junk like the choreographed cursing absolutely, positively would not be tolerated at Texas A&M. They've got a great student section and the regular folks aren't too shabby either. You don't have to be vulgar and wasted to be a good crowd. Of course, I remember my days of being just that, but we were never on TV in those days. :hihi: The above point about it being choreographed is a pretty good point too. Not sure how that gets going, but that does change things a bit. It's like an x-rated version of the Cameron Crazies. :hihi:
