I'm saying it's ok to say whatever you want to legally (agreeing with clair), but really there is much more to common decency than just the law. I guess you can say that I'm a bit of an idealist, but today was too far for me. I've always just let it go on, for the most part, unfazed. Today was just too much. It's also an issue of parenting, but again- trying to talk about the students alone, not free speech alleying this. I don't think that they understand just what it is they're doing, to be perfectly honest.
Hey man - there were times when I went overboard in the student section as well. But this is different. The difference now is the sheer organization and scale of it. This isn't a cacophony of f-bombs bouncing around and cancelling each other out - no, this is something entirely new altogether. It's highly organized, section-wide, choreographed vulgarity - so much so that it can be heard all around the stadium. And it's instigated by in-situ "cheer" leaders and by the musical queue provided by the Gold Band's Ooh-e-oh chorus. Quite impressive.
It's not?? Wow, now I'm kinda bummed. I considered it a sort of badge of dishonor since I was the only one I could find with a red x - or is it a red star...I can't tell. You know my eyes aren't what they used to be. Anyway, thanks for taking a stand.
It's easy to blame the new generation for what's wrong in society, but shouldn't it be the older generation's responsibility to correct that? I mean y'all are the ones that raised us right? I don't mean that in any offensive way to you Crip, I'm just saying it's not all our fault. People claim the new generations are spoiled, but guess what? Who are the ones that are spoiling us?? That's right. It also has to do with society advancing in technology leaning more towards an electronic era than previous years. Anyways that's kinda besides the point, Just realize that if most of the studnents read this thread and the effects of cursing, I"m betting a lot of them would stop it, maybe not the ones that are in cheers (1st down cheer) but they would be willing to try.
Bingo...that's the idea. This notion seems to have taken with Mr. Friedriches and and several others. But of course that approach (having this topic get some exposure) would take enough people giving a damn about it to keep this thread active. It would also have to survive any particular moderator that has delete/move privileges and sees this sort of discussion as an unworthy topic for page one. Tall order...but stranger things have happened.
come on, now. when it was the hippies turn to lead, they didn't do too bad. You wouldn't want me to judge who you are now, by who you were when you were 18, right? People grow up and it will be the same with my generation as it did with every other one. EDIT: ya'll don't trust us to "lead" or whatever, but you do trust us to fight in Iraq. Think about that. don't judge 15-20 morons for 100-150 good ones.
I'm sure that's what the generation before yours said about your generation. It's always like this, and at all big time football schools the student section is going to be a little raunchy and explicit. It's just people having fun and a few cuss words isn't going to kill anyone.
