Wow - what a difference a day makes. Earlier this week I felt like I was the only one who cared enough to speak out about this...I even got some tigerforum "demerits" for being such an old fogie (see my red Mark under my name. The moderators even deleted some of my posts - I guess I'm just an old hater. Anyway, all I can say is Friedriches is a man of courage! Here he sits with more than 2112 posts and tons of rep points and gobs and gobs of little stars under his name...and yet he's willing to question the masses. As a father, I appreciate all of you who have spoken out. Perhaps one way to address this is to simply ask the band to forego the Ooh-e-o chorus. You know, MSU students can get penalized for cowbells. cowbells. I'm too old and irrelevant to be of any good here. But it seems to me that a letter to Daily Revillee might open up an interesting dialogue on this topic. Any takers? If so...just be forewarned - might cost you a few rep points.

But there is an appropriate arena for everything, and, as THE major attraction in the state, shouldn't LSU football's issue addressed? It's something that the students don't even realize they're doing... They don't THINK that they are heard on national TV- at least the ones I talked to around me who did it. When the "F*** Spurrier" stuff started up, I asked them if they knew that TV had the section miked up indirectly via band microphones. They stopped immediately. If we bring it to their attention, I'm sure that some people will help fight for a cleaner, better world. I mean, Tiger Stadium. When your powers combine...
I don't know, I've never been to your house, do you? Makes sense that insults would be where you turn. It's about pride in your college, your team, and the work you put in Monday through Friday towards a degree that bears the name of the team you are cheering for. Perhaps you weren't lucky enough to attend LSU, but I can tell you I'd just as soon transfer before I'm known as a former member of the student section that had more pride in it's unsociable diction than it did in the tradition and pagentry of sportsmanship and all that NCAA athletics once stood for.
I watched the entire game today on TV and while I could hear chants from the student section, I couldn't make out what they were saying. Obviously, I'm not contesting what was being chanted nor do I doubt it happened, just saying I couldn't hear it clearly over the TV. That's a bold move, though, miking up a student section for ANY college football game.
