no it isnt! you suck is a common and accepted taunt! you would make it even if they werent cocks. with queens you would have to make up some odd and freaky taunt that didnt make any sense.

The truth of the matter is that football stadiums are not classy. I do not consider them a "family friendly environment". I would not take my young son to any major college or NFL game. Case in point, at the middle tenn game the person sitting next to me brought their 11 year old nephew. 5 minutes into the game the drunk behind him hurls all over. It was sickening. Whether you like it or not, the drinking and language make it an adult atmosphere. It is sad!

I saw many people at the game wearing shirts saying: "Gamecocks Suck" on the front and "Arkansas Swallows" on the back...also so an old man after the game selling shirts saying Arkansas Sucks with a cartoon pee-ing on an Arky helment...and one that said: "Nick Saban is a douche!! 11.3.07"

those that aren't pleased with the chants do you feel people wearing those types of shirts are just as bad?

    Frat boys

I was in the student section. The "you suck (Game)cocks" was funny. i think i said it after one touchdown.

things like that help the monotony of the same ole cheers dozens of time game in game out, esp. the way we have been winning past few years. (notice that most of the stands like to clear out after halftime in most of our games)

As far as the F U Spurrier cheer, and i dont want to be hypocritical bc i curse from time to time too, but completely uncalled for. i was a little shocked when i realized how long it was going on for and how loud it got. i love LSU and anything that the name gets put in. That can bring NOTHING but bad.:dis:

Now after that, get off of the student section. It bring More to the stadium than maybe the whole rest of the stadium together. When the D wants to get the crowd pumped, they turns to the student section. When the LSUs team needs a little motivation after an opposing team TD, the student section is the one that starts the cheers back up STANDING UP when the whole rest of the stadium is sitting down. It is the life of the stadium.

I've been to dozens of Bama games, in the student section I might add.

I saw plenty of drunks, but never the constant F bombs I am reading about here.

We focused on our team, and let the opponent look like asses running THEIR mouths.

the student section is known for getting rowdy but far as dropping the f-bomb in a chant, that's uncharacteristic. however, Spurrior and LSU have a unique relationship to say the least.

However, until you have a team that allows the opponent to look like an ass, you won't understand

ok, first of all texas A&M doesn't behave badly b/c of all the brainwashing.

next, i agree with fried in the overall spirit of his post. i graduated LSU in '99 (aka the ice throwing years) and sometimes as much as i love our student section, i'm also ashamed of them.

i really don't have a problem with a "you suck, cocks" cheer b/c we are using their name in a humorous way. i really don't like the "you suck" in general that was added on the wiz of oz cheer. which ruined it completely and i'm sure it's a year away from being removed from the band's playlist.

but the F-spurrier cheer (and i REALLY hate darth visor) is just uncreative crap. see, when LSU fans are criticized for being horrible fans (behavior wise) you can usually play it off as "oh this is a minority of our fans" but when the majority of thousands of students are doing it, you can't explain that away. especially when it's caught on film.

was the student section perfect in my day? no. but i definitley think things are getting worse. heck, the student section in my day was the one that started that 2nd down dance. i remember it happening a few games in a row. it started with like ten people. then it became 50 and then 100 and then 1000, and now it's tradition. freshmen probably think that little 2nd down thing has been going on for decades. i like it and there isn't an f-bomb anywhere in it. the point is, class begats class and the opposite is true. freshmen coming in seeing other students acting like jackasses en masse are going to do the same. the number has multiplied.

lastly, i was appalled and embarrassed for the Rutgers student section for chanting "F- you Navy" when they played the midshipmen. i thought that was the lowest of the low. all three service academys are a different animal and these are young men and institutions that should be respected. rutgers students got panned on local and nat'l talk radio shows and rightly so.

so i'll end my post with this....

do you have absolute 100% "bet your life" confidence on the fact that this current LSU student section woouldn't have done the same thing had it been us playing navy??

    i don't.

i loved my time in the student section. it really was like being part of this living breathing throng of intimidation and there was nothing like it. to this day, no where else in the stadium comes close to the passion. but now i think the classless "1 percenters" of bad fans have multiplied.

When I was a kid, it was a family friendly environment. People used to have a great time and still hold on to their self respect.

Free speech is a funny thing. It means that the government cannot sensor your speech, but I can. You drop F bombs around my family, you get a friendly warning. You do it again, you get a friendly ass whoopin.

Great post, but you have to realize the Rutger's fans were yelling at Navy's football players not referring to the entire naval academy. I don't agree with them doing it but I'm sure navy's football team doesn't want to be treated any differently than any other team. I personally would not feel right doing it as well.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure LSU fans would not do the same, they have no past history with Navy, so I dont' see why they would do it. We have a very angry past with Spurrier and I can see why the fans would do it. In a sense it was a "rivalry" game between LSU and Spurrier. From my experiences, the vulgar language usually comes out between hated rivals and such.
