I found this interesting after a comment that Barak Obama made before the Oregon rally. I understand he was likely pandering to the tree huggers but still find it thought provoking.
It is instructive that Obama, the candidate, is admitting he's interested in letting the perceptions and opinions of other countries drive our domestic policy. Imagine what he'll use as a barometer for our foreign policy.
you left out the context. "That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added." makes sense to me. he said he wants the US to lead the world in energy conservation and green technology. the US cant continue to consume irresponsibly and then gripe about india and china.
this is scary and this is true and this is very sad. "i like fried chicken and i dont care if i have arteriosclerosis. just give me some drug, doc."
Do China and India have a "Green Day"? Do they participate or celebrate Earth Day? Are their governments spending much time or money on energy conservation or alternative methods? Which energy efficient method are they leading the world in? If Obama really believes he's going to force or shame Americans into completely changing their lifestyle habits, then that's a problem. To me it's more of continual bashing and blaming Americans/America for all that's wrong with the world rather than celebrate or acknowledge what is being done well. Why does Obama send his kids to private school? Guess those personal choices are okay for politicians when it's their own family/convenience. Any thoughts on the choice of the Decemberists as being the band of choice for the rally?
Probably because they are awesome. Also they are from Portland. And they are probably be tree hugging commie pinkos. In all seriousness though they rock. Maybe next Obamatron can get Iggy and the Stooges to play a show for him.
I agree, the "planned community" is different from the "village neighborhood" concept. They seem to plan all the fun out of planned communities and it's just too sterile and conformist with lots of rules. Village neighborhoods simply encourage essential small businesses to cluster somewhere in or adjacent to the residential area to create a more pedestrian atmosphere, hopefully with a neighborhood grade school and a cop that actually walks a beat. Nonsense. There are conservatives, moderates, and liberals in every walk of life. The notion that hard work, common sense, and success are exclusively conservative ideals is quite absurd. But I'm beginning to suspect that an exaggerated sense of self-importance and a self-righteous attitude is a conservative hallmark.
There are MANY alternative rock bands/punk rock bands from Oregon. Why choose one that plays the National Anthem of the Soviet Union to open their concerts? Perhaps because the band is named after a communist revolution? CHANGE. Yes, that's it. In the big picture, this is nothing and it won't change anyone's vote but seriously, who is in charge of his PR?
all candidates have pandered to the enviormentalist, even McCain recently has been to California with a green agenda and I believe he isnt really for what he is saying. Spread the criticism.
