The sportswriter for the chronicle seems pretty unprofessional in his responses and columns. How does one get a vote in the polls anyway? I do find his mail indicator pretty funny though.
I know who that Chronicle writer is (well, not personally), but I think his response is reasonably fair. Syracuse, BSU, et. al be damned: if we come out and do what Saban has worked towards all year---a complete game, dominating an opponent---we will get to #2 in one of the polls. How can a comfortable win over Georgia in Atlanta result in anything less than a #2 USC in one poll, a #2 LSU in the other. The fact that this would put LSU in the Sugar Bowl is, admittedly, a nice by-product, but from the "human" perspective, how can these voters do anything else?
I was against this email thing from the start and I didn't send any. But it has opened the table to the debate. Today on "Around the Horn", all but one guy said LSU would get screwed if we were not invited to the Sugar (if we beat GA on Sat). It has made these writers openly express their views on it, good or bad. Our case for being #2 is out there, all we have to do is win Sat and I believe that atleast one of the human polls will change. So has the email thing done harm? Yes and no. While getting our message out there, other college fan boards have had a field day with their perception of LSU begging for a higher ranking. It might offend some writers, but as TE has posted before, if they vote against LSU b/c of the emails then they should lose their right to vote and we do not have the same kind of built in hype machine that SC has. So in a way, we had to make our case to the people that matter before the GA game (basically before it was too late). I would think the emails should not be sent anymore. They did the job, and anymore could hurt more than help. From now on it needs to be settled on the field.
Bullcrap. Those writers are acting just like the elitist media a$$holes they are. They are not intersted in fact, but rather, in what they see and hear from the national elitists on TV. That probably means that LSU has no chance unless USUCKS looses on Saturday. In that case, I say screw them, let's shut their e-mails completely down! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!ldskule:
I think this guy for the Houston Chronicle, especially from the tone and content, has made a few assumptions. I think that what is most blatant is that he wouldn't vote for LSU as number 2 no matter if 1 or 1 million people email him because he is just deadset on seeing USC in the sugar bowl. What i also see is something that is troubling. Traditionally, writers (sports and otherwise) come into the business expecting responses to their thoughts that they put to media. However, his attitude says to me is that "don't piss me off or i just won't vote for your team" and this has been echoed to a degree by some others in the sports nation. When did it become about how a fan responds to a writer that determines a teams fate than a team's merit. It seems that they not only want to be seen as holding an anvil over that teams and their fan's heads, but seem to like it. I know that their is a human factor to this BCS with the voters. However, we should do what we can so that this writer and others like Ryan (dunno his first name) from that show The Sports Reporters know that OU and USC isn't just the only matchup that would be great. And if they can't handle responses and criticism, then they should turn in their pencil and paper, computer, etc. and let someone who can handle those things do the job.
I say camo the attack... make it personal- I have one question, are you held responsible for what you do at work? Then so should these idiots! They are determined to inflict their will on us- whether we like it or not. We should be #2 and what's more they know it and defy it. F**k em!! Keep sending those e-mails til their computers blow up!!
Those cut & paste e-mails are probably especially annoying to those guys. I think they've probably got thousands of the same version. If you feel absolutely compelled to e-mail someone, do something original or just say, "Look, we take college football extremely serious, almost like a religion. After analyzing the body of work for LSU & USC, it seems obvious that LSU deserves the game more. It's just difficult to sit back and do nothing when we have the better hand."
Ram it home and keep clogging those in boxes ... the people i know doing this account for over 15,000 e-mails/day at 54 targeted individuals. And, responses have been promising ... THE TYPICAL RESPONSE ... THEY KNOW WE'RE OUT THERE AND WILL CONSIDER LSU ... VERY POLITE. Enclosed crazy sports photos are the best ... and even enjoyed ... by some people. Articles are starting to "pop up" & awareness is being raised. one cat I'm told claims to have 42 different yahoo accounts and spends his entire day "at the office" BOMBING these writers, lol. They even send e-mails to the spouses and relatives of these writers ... imagine that ... it's out-of-control ... and it's spreading faster than the flu. One ole boy has "THE BIG BLITZ" campaign all planned after the game. He thinks we can get over 10,000 post game e-mails into these people. The title he wants to use in the Blitz is this: Tigers Roar past GA, GOD himself compels you. Sounds like something out of the exorcist. Gotta get back to those e-mails. Later!
If that's the case, I hope people stop emailing. We've made our case. But one thing I'm considering...The email list complied here was missing about 20 email addresses b/c those addresses required registration. That means there are 20 voters out there that probably have gotten no message. Has anyone found these other emails? Some cannot be found on the internet, and would require calling the papers to get the contact information. Be sure that if you email these unreached voters to send the updated 16 points, as they are clearer and more convincing. There are the voters that we did not compile information for: Jim Cnockaert, The Ann Arbor (Mich.) News --THIS GUY WAS FIRED, NO E-MAIL FOUND Paul Coro, Arizona Republic -- Chris Fowler, ESPN Tim Layden, Sports Illustrated -- George Lehner, WTVN-AM, Columbus, Ohio --Only found his picture. Does not give me hope: Tom Luicci, The Star-Ledger, Newark, N.J Mike Shalin, The Boston Herald Lee Zurik, WWLTV, New Orleans
