And, It is certainly possible that Miles will have great success once here. But the point is that LSU is taking on a whole lot more risk than I and I'm assuming most people though we had to.

Your point on winning percentage is a poor one because the state of the LSU program when when hired Saban to now is not comparable from a facility, talent, or recent success standpoint.

Sir, any coach of LSU after the last 5 years would have to prove himself.

You misunderstand my point. I agree that the next coach is going to have to live up to some high expectations give the success during the last 5 years.

But, wouldn't you feel better if you'd hire someone who has already achieved a certain amount of success. Has Les Miles ever won a conference championship? Has he ever won his division in his conference? Has he ever won a January 1 bowl game? Has any of his teams ever finished in the top 15? None of these things on their own are a prerequisite to success (See Saban) but I do believe that past success is a pretty good indicator of future success.

If Les Miles becomes the next great coach at LSU, it will be because he does things here that he was unable to do previously.

Having said that, I'll be supporting him fully. My disappointment is with Skip.

Presumably (assuming he does become our coach), Miles will be able to do things at LSU that he was unable to do previously because he will have the infrastructure, support, and fertile recruiting ground that he did not have at OSU.

    Thanks.

I could not have said it better myself. This would be a good hire for the LSU of Nov 99, not the LSU of Jan 05.

I know it's tough to judge a coach by a one game performance (see our bowl game today), but his team looked very unprepared against Ohio St. I don't thing he's that great of a big game coach, his defenses are not dominant, and I don't think his teams are mentally tough in the face of adversity. I say we continue scouting for a new coach and have a back up plan in the event Miles fails.

    tigerjeffrey's post was dead on.

See my thread Warning: These facts comparing Miles and a former LSU coach may be disturbing! for one possible reason.
