As usual you miss my point in today’s political climate it will rub 70%+ of the country the wrong way. It would’ve made the Republicans and police look like jack booted thugs reminding us more of the Nazis than anything else. In the long run it would be self defeating, turning more people against you.
70%? I think you exaggerate by a great deal. Of course, the main stream media coverage would make it look like the figure is closer to 90%
The democrats looking sour and not standing and clapping behaved exactly like the republicans did during Obama's state of the union addresses. And the democrats did the same during the Bushes SOTU's. And the republicans acted the same during the Clinton state of the union addresses. Every minority party acts that way...it's the norm. By the way, the modern norm for state of the union addresses is that they're like campaign speeches at the conventions...they're not important. They're rah rah speeches. I can't stand them.
