I really hope Miles is thinking this way. It would seem to be in his best interest to Keep Muschamp as DC.

It would be a much smoother transition for everyone, including the fans, if he did.

    I Have One Concern, TigerJeff

I think one of the biggest downfalls for Dinardo is that he refused to get rid of Tepper, when even Ray Charles could see that the defense was the problem at the end of his tenure.

Clay's defenses can't stop anybody, and we've seen what "bend but don't break" does to a W-L record. If he sticks by his guy Clay, and we hear the words four-two-five used in any context relative to what our defense is trying to accomplish in terms of dominating their opponents on every play (sorry, couldn't resist), then I'd say we're gonna need to hire another coach in about three years.

We've gotten used to defense, and not just any defense, but GREAT DEFENSE!!!!

I would like to keep them both. I think Jimbo was held back this year by Saban trying to win with Defense and not risking loosing with the bad, yes I said bad, qb play we had. Once we can do more than off tackle r/l, pass, punt
you will see the talent on this team offensively go wild. I think Jimbo had one foot in a bucket all year. jmo

I think it would be good to keep Muschamp, but Jimbo's gota go. Muschamp is a defensive GENIUS. He's a great asset to the team and would do a lot for Mile's program. Jimbo, on the other hand, is a good coach, but wouldn't bring nearly as much to Mile's program. Miles is an offense-oriented head coach and could use 'Champ's defensive leadership ability, but because he's an offense oriented coach, he needs to get his own men on the offensive staff. You don't want to run a complex offense with people you're not sure of or have never coached with.

I don't want Clay as DC either, but to say they can't stop anyone is not accurate. He's had great defenses, and he's had mediocre ones. Clay does own 5 top ten scoring defenses out of his 17 years as a DC (at least 8 of 17 years top 20).

Having a top 10 defense approx. 1 out of every 3 years is not a horrible record.

Now, were those great D's a product of his coaching scheme taking advantage of great players when he had them - only to be average when the great players were gone? ... or were they a product of great athletes running around on their own making plays?

The hiring of assistants is a much much more important task than signing a good recruiting class this year. I hope he puts together a quality staff instead of just taking everyone he can from OSU and plugging the gaps with current LSU assistants. We really need a special teams coach that knows what he is doing immediately. I would also like to see some changes with a less predictable offense. I would like at least some of the defensive staff to stay and absolutely do not want Clay as DC. Hopefully he doesn't get in too big of a hurry and finds the right guys to fill his staff.

Of course very seldom does a coach inherit a DC who had had one of the top 5 defenses in the country pretty often. Usually when a coach takes over a job it's because the DC was bad.
