Red, does LSU let the NCAA standards apply to athletics and are these standards lower than the university academic standards?
It seems the University would be setting itself up for a law suit with two different standards.:geauxtige
LSU accepts the NCAA standards for athletes, which is much lower than the standards for regular folks. LSU Admissions NCAA Admissions
The Department of Athletics adheres to the University's admission policy, as defined in the current LSU General Catalog. Entering freshmen and transfer student-athletes must meet the admission requirements of Louisiana State University, as well as the eligibility requirements of the SEC and the NCAA. Admission may be granted under certain unusual circumstances, even when all statedrequirements are not met. In each case, consideration is given to the following: Any unique contribution the University may make to an applicant's educational and/orcareer interests; Extraordinary talents, achievements, or the creative ability of the applicant; Age group or ethnic background of the applicant which would compliment LSU's diversestudent population; or Other extenuating circumstances meriting special consideration. LSU STUDENT-ATHLETES: ADMISSIONS We lost an football athlete last summer who transferred to Oklahoma rather than take a summer school math course that was required by the SEC.
Based on that this is the 2nd time I have heard Spurrier complain about this, leads me to believe that Spurrier thought he and University had an understanding that this wouldnt happen again. He probably reinforced this while recruiting these kids and then the University does it again. Spurrier knows that this will have a fallout while recruiting and therefore makes it even harder for him to have success at SC. I would think the University will address this as soon as possible or he is gone.
That's what I'm thinking. For him to be so public with his comments he is really saying fix it or who out there wants me. Wait, I think I hear his Pimp's phone ringing, it's Auburn and Ole Miss calling.
a little more to the story. they were oversigned so they werent going to play. plus, we dont know why they weren't admitted. could be for personal conduct reasons for example. evidently uga rejected ncaa eligible signees a few years back--one for having sex on campus (in high school) and the other because his SAT was way out of whack with other academic #s (like a >1200 SAT and 17 ACT). anyway, one is at e. carolina now and the other is looking. sorry for no link. found it all at cockytalk.com
