the only reason would be the Summer Olympics. That's the whole reason why I project him to be a goner. I think he will make the team. It's not an issue of whether he could balance both. I def think he could balance preparation for both. You just can't be a professional athlete and still play for LSU.
Olympics end Aug. 24th, he could rejoin the team shortly after that and get 'up to speed' very quickly. He would be in great shape, albeit not football shape, but he could contribute by the 4th or 5th game with ease. However if he makes the Olympic team, whether he does great or not, he will probably get some consideration for a track contract. I expect him to play football the remainder of this year (not a shoe-in for the Olympics by any stretch)..but I'd not count on him being here next year.
Actually, he could still play CFB while making money as a track athlete. However, he were to sign an endorsement deal or take appearance money than I believe he would not be eligible. I'm sure the rules are a little complicated. There have been many athletes who were professional in one sport and still played another in college, especially professional baseball players.
It was my understanding that to participate in the Olympics as an athlete one had to maintain an amature status which includes endorsement deals. Am I off here?
I was really kinda hopin to see Crowton run some sort of MadMax/MasterBlaster play with Trindon on Herman's back :hihi: :thumb:
Man, all that changed a couple of years after Avery Brundage died, Olympic athletes get millions. The western countries had to start paying their athletes to counter all of the iron curtain "Army" athletes or we would have not been able to win medals in many sports.
