i didnt misinterpret anything, i just figure that a libertarian understands the efficiency of the market. a transition from a government managed anything to a private anything is simple and works itself out. we dont have to do anything.

the government should do one thing in times of disaster, maintain order. anything other than that could be accomplished better faster and cheaper by private means.

Are you referring to the Postal Service or to private delivery services?

I still don't know what makes you think I 'don't understand the efficiency of the market.' Many of these agencies are incredibly vast and have a complete inabilty to share information, or even carry out everyday tasks. Making a complete transition would give rise to a plethora of disruptions in service. If there is a way around it, fine. But you haven't offered anything in that respect, which is all that I have asked.

While I realize that those three terms can also easily be used to describe the current condition of the USPS, I was referrring to a transition from them to a private delivery service. They don't have enough people, trucks/storage, or information to make the overnight switch. It would take a long time in which the government and private agencies would have to coexist.

Well, I disagree. on both counts. The denigration of the Postal Service is undeserved. My mail always gets where I want it to and my incoming mail is always received on time.

If they disbanded the USPS, how long do you think it would take UPS, Fed Ex, etc to hire, purchase, lease or otherwise comandeer existing postal facilities, employees and equipment. Thar's gold in them thar hills, boy.

My mom used to work night shifts at the Post Office here in BTR. She always came home with horror stories about how inefficiently and poorly it was run. On top of that, I've encountered more than my fair share of issues regarding mail delivery. How many times have you moved in your life? I don't know why they even have change of address forms. Lord knows they rarely use them.

Wow, a worker complaining about her employers? Well that settles the argument.

Privatization of the postal service could happen in a pretty short period of time, assuming a buy-out of the capital assets of the USPS. I'm not altogether convinced that's needed, though in theory, a private enterprise would do it more efficiently. But I don't really have a big problem w/ the USPS.

The key is to stop mailing stuff that can be done on-line.

right, those inefficient organizations would be abolished and replaced by private corporations.

i disaree entirely. ups and fedex would start hiring and i suspect would be superior within weeks.

I'm sorry that's all you took from that. It's first-hand observations about processes that could be carried out a lot more efficiently with little effort. I don't know how much you've had to work with government agencies in your line of work, but senseless inefficiency is pretty much the status quo.

Thank you for repeating what we were talking about in the first place. How that transition could be made without disruption of service, on the other hand, eventually became the focus.
