berlin wall was 80ish heavily guarded miles in central europe through a gigantic city. it was two walls with a zone in the middle where you get shot from guard towers everywhere.

mexico border is almost 2 thousand miles, much of which is in the middle on absolutely nowhere.

again, short walls work. walls around a prison work. thousand miles through mountains? nope.

What a stupid analogy. The Berlin Wall was built to keep an enslaved people in. It had manned machine gun post to shoot escapees....a prison wall. As demonstrated by the day it came down it was only effective because of the fear it created. still people braved it and successfully escaped continuously.
BTW do you really want our southern border to be compared to the Berlin Wal?????

The Berlin Wall also kept people out. And it was hyperbole. He said walls don't work, I named one that did. Of course I don't think we should have a wall like that. Perhaps you need to take a step back on your anger a bit.

i like that it pisses off so many people. With the little cost i really don't give a shit, at least make it a tourist attraction. (Maybe make some sections a replica of the Great Wall of China but bigger? With ferris wheels and roller coasters?) But the wall is antithesis to the coming Global Socialist State. It's certainly a setback.

With the technology we have we don't need walls through a desert, or unpopulated areas. As long as we don't give undocumented illegals federal assistance, allow them to vote, etc....there should be no incentive to come to the US illegally. But, isn't there really a lot?

 

You obviously did not view the photo of the new walls being built. The wall extends some 10-15 ft down in the ground, so your tunnel is going to have to pretty fricken deep. The walls are grills so the agent can see what’s going on in the other side, ie., that mound of freshly dug dirt is going to be a dead give away that something is going on. The walls out in the sticks are double walls separated by a space with a road between them, so while you may be able to get under or over the first, you will be caught in the dead space. To boot they are being equipped with technology so that the command center can view if the alarm was set off by a person or an animal. The wall is at minimum 18ft tall, taller in high risk areas. The walls have a solid metal climb guard, so your ladder is going to have to go all the way to the top, and you are going to have to get your ladder and equipment over the first wall and hope an agent won’t get there before you get over the second wall. ... and then there is the 20ft drop on the other side. The new walls are replacing barriers that were strictly designed to slow vehicle traffic, not pedestrian traffic.

@Jmg ..... these walls were designed by the Border Patrol for the Border Patrol, and take into account the experience they have amassed over decades. They work. And like I said, a 14 mile long wall pushes the immigrants out to unpopulated areas where they more easily seen by drones. As noted in the Article I referenced, the main problem was floods of people coming over the old walls to the point they just overwhelmed the man power. The new walls, as testified by the agents themselves nave stopped that.
