See the dads are always the ones laughing!!! This is off topic a bit...but my I was lecturing my son once and my husband looks at him very serious and says, "do you understand what your mother is saying to you?" To which my son replies, "I think, but she speaks woman, you know dad, where you say one thing and mean another?!" My husband left for the bathroom with a stern face, turned on the water and nearly pizzed himself laughing while I popped my then nine year old across the mouth b/c we were discussing a rather serious issue! My husband SWEARS he did not give him this line...??? but he tells all his co-workers..a proud moment in a fathers life! His sons 1st good good comeback! So you see...the smart azz behavior just grows according to size...one day they say "tewww"..the next this.... And ...I am a strong supporter for child spanking/popping...whatever you want to call it....depends on the situation and child...but nothing gets the point across faster than a quick slap when their off-guard...scares 'em more than anything and lets 'em know, or really reminds 'em, whose in charge!
what do you do if you find yourself spanking your kid all the time (as it sounds like a few TF posters were)? What then? i agree with a lot of what they say in the article. most of us were spanked and think we came out ok, but that doesnt mean that spanking does not lead to problems. just like my dad making fun of me insisting on putting my son in a car seat. he'll say "well, i drove around with you without one and you turned out ok". reasonable people are willing to beleive statistics without having to personally experience things.
My mom did that too. My dad was the more severe punisher but more understanding at the same time. I either got it bad or he pissed my mom off by not punishing me. The time from me having to tell him until when he decided was completely awful. You can punish kids mentally just as easily, though it is not as much fun. After my cousin and I cleaned a few warehouses at the port and cleaned bathrooms in Tugboats, we followed the rules a little more.
