All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator...

I don't think they were referring to Darwin there.

    I laugh at your interpretations.

A wise man once told me that "educated idiots are the worst".

It wouldn't bother me as long as they allowed the 10 commandments to hang there too.

What is the downside to having none of them hang on the wall?

None, as long as someone could display them if they wanted to.

A "Creator" does not have to be a diety, the creator could be a phenomenon or a process, perhaps an evolving process.

Since he would not born for another 33 years, for once I can agree with you.

There were no atheists among the framers of the Constitution. They did not mean that a "phenomenon" or a "process" "Created" and "endowed" man with "certain inalienable rights".

    I don't know. A citizen.

You're like the fellow who hears the punchline to a joke and asks "and then what happened?"

Allow me to chime in here....The First Amendment states:

Again...Congress shall make no law....someone explain to me how saying a prayer in school equates to Congress passing a law. How does the display of a nativity on a city hall lawn get blown up into Congress passing a law?

People so readily forget the circumstances under which the Bill of Rights was written. That phrase came from the fact that the Founding Fathers came from a country where the king once declared that the government was the religion, with himself (the king) as its leader. They didn't like that, and they wanted to make sure that the fledgling American Government could never put itself in the legal position of telling the citizenry what religion they had to follow, or even that they had to follow any religion at all. That restriction has been bastardized (with the greatest strides taking place in the last 50 years) to mean that government must never acknowledge that religion exists. So is America a better or worse nation for having taken that turn? A comprehensive look at the way our society behaves in general should answer that question.
