I do disagree that we have not seen enough of Randall to make a judgment. I saw plenty last season. There has been time for improvement. That will not be known until kickoff. I do agree that we have not seen enough of Matt against seasoned competition to say that he is the man.

I believe Matt should be the starter at the beginning of the season, simply because he didn't lose his starting role because of competition. He was injured. It should be his job to lose now.

I think we should be in better position starting this season than last season. Both QB's have experience and we have to admit, Randall faced much tougher competition than Matt. I think in the early games that all three QB's whom ever that may be should receive PT. We need to ensure we have a QB ready.

If we compare our position with other SEC teams in regards to backup QB’s, you will be hard pressed out side of Georgia and Arkie to find a team in better shape.

My concern is cheap shots may be taken at Matt. Don’t tell me they wouldn’t do it either. Go back to the SECCG against UT. Rohan took some cheap shots and I’ve seen Albarn and UF do it as well. There is a difference in a late hit because a player loses site of where he is at “on the field” or so into the play he fails to hear the whistle. JMO

    Fellas,

Out of curiosity, what was the exact nature of Mauck's injury? I don't recall ever hearing the diagnosis. From what I saw on TV and the fact that initially nothing serious was thought wrong, I'm guessing it was a lisfrank fracture dislocation. This is when the long bones in front of your ankle (metatarsals) are dislocated and it's often not properly diagnosed.

BTW, I don't think Mauck is a great QB, but I think we have a better chance of winning with him because he doesn't make the mental errors or lose his composure like Randall.
