Is there a particular reason our OC and DC are up in booths and not down on the sidelines? Maybe being down on the field and in the players faces will liven them up instead of kissing them when they make mkistakes.
They cant see the whole play from down on the field. I don't really like OC'd or DC's on the sideline. Then they rely on spotters. I'd rather have the main guy seeing things play out.
The only reason i can think of an OC being in the booth is because of the vantage point, and outside the booth there are probably computers that can print off digital photos of coverage really fast, plus it seems it would be easier to modify and work from a desk as opposed to on the sideline. That's just a wild guess though, i really have no clue.
Dude, the best DC's in the NFL and in college are on the field with their players. Give me a sideline defensive coordinator ANY day.
I've given Les the benefit of the doubt the last couple of years, but I don't care who it is in the end, if the conservative run it up the middle twice and throw a screen pass stuff doesn't stop soon then we need to just clean house and start with a new coaching staff. Bring in Patterson or Mendenhall.
What QBs has he had to develop? Perrilloux was sent packing. Garrett left (or was sent packing). Hatchsimply did not possess the tools necessary to be successful. Lee and Jefferson are the only two physically gifted products and both of them were thrown into the fire waaaaay too early. That affected both of them, but Jefferson seemed to have handled it better. Jefferson looks better with each game, though. I'm sure most LSU fans won't recognize that until two or three QBs down the road like Marcus Randall, Herb Tyler, Craig Nall, etc. Stats are raw data that show results. Stats to not show experience or ability at QB, WR, O-Line, RB, etc. Stats do not show injury reports. Stats don't show a lot. Unless you have actually watched some of his games at Oregon, BYU, Chicago, LaTech, etc. then you're simply not qualified to make this assumption. I do know that Crowton historically gameplans to the opposing defense's weaknesses. I haven't seen a gameplan so helter skelter until his second year at LSU. It's like running around Baskin Robbins with that tiny spoon and trying to get your fill by sampling everything in the store. Crowton, Miles, etc. needs to narrow it down a bit.
One thing about Les is that he will let go of a staffer (defense any way) easily. Look he dropped his first proposed DC for Pellini, dropped the duo DCs for Chavis. Of course he drove Jimbo away. He isn't as loyal as you may think (a positive). Why he keeps Crowton I don't know. Someone compared his play calling to sampling Baskin Robbins which is a apt and great comparisson. He also doesn't develop talent. JJ and J lee are prime examples. Hope is that Gonzales is the next OC. He wouldn't have come without some hope of such a future.:geaux:
I've seen someone here mention that Crowton is in the last year of his contract. If that's true he's likely done at LSU whether he wants to go or not. Les ain't firing anybody mid-season without cause, but it'll give Gonzales a year to learn the ropes. Then I think Les will give him an opportunity at OC.
