Don't sleep on LSU. What were the big problems last season? (1) Horrible defense (2) Horrible QB play Everything else was pretty good on the 2008 Tigers. Problem #1 should improve, it can't get much worse. I consider Problem #2 solved.
Jefferson still has yet to prove that he can play for the long, rugged SEC schedule. He has great potential, but many have failed before him in their first year as a starter. He will make rookie mistakes. Lee has more experience than any QB we have and the mistakes he made being thrown into the game as a freshman are behind him. His passing was always good. It is a mistake to write Lee off and he will be a much better quarterback. The receivers in the spring appreciated his arm. He will be the backup, but I expect him to get more PT than last years reserves did. It's a rough league, Jefferson could go down or just not rise to the level we anticipate. Shepard will also get PT at quarterback for the same reason. We have to develop some depth and not be one-dimensional if we lose a QB.
Good points, Red. It's been awhile since LSU's QB situation looked so comfortable. If Garrett grows into the kind of QB many think he will be (myself included), LSU is in fine shape for a long time.
How do you know this? Is this an assumption? From what i know about the spring game, Lee threw 2 interceptions, something he is known for last season. How does that equate to his mistakes being behind him? I know he improved quite a bit, but if he made major steps , then he would have been named the starter, not Jefferson.
I dont care if Jarrett Lee and Joe Montana just underwent freaky friday, Lee better not even sniff the field next season.
look at jarett lee's first couple of starts. then look at jefferson's. that's all i'm saying. i don't disagree with anything you said, but i don't think jordan is going to make the mistakes that jarett did last season based on what we've all seen from him. he played possibly the two toughest games LSU had and shined. first he had to come in at arkansas and play a game that everyone on that team possibly felt they HAD to win. and he was good enough. he started the bowl game and was very, very impressive. to come out in a game like that knowing that EVERYTHING was on the line (being a game that LSU couldn't afford to lose) and once again shining... that's good stuff. i'm not saying that one of them had it easier than the other because playing in the SEC is tough, period. but i think that lee's performance last season was the absolute worst-case scenario. i don't that that is the norm for inexperienced starting QBs. regardless, i still blame the defense mostly. that was an all-out piss poor job by the entire defensive side of the team last season. we knew the QBs would be fresh, but we had a good enough defense returning to help them out. giving up 40 points to UGA and UF are things that i'd expect from the LSU teams of the 90s, but NOT THESE TEAMS! i don't care who LSU plays, they shouldn't be giving up more than 25-30 points a game, AT MOST.
The only Lee that won't sniff the field next year at QB is the Lee from Texas because he didn't even graduate from high school yet and is still listed as a commit. :hihi:.
