MarcusQuinn, I am not illiterate, and in fact hold a degree from LSU in Education, and happen to cherish the memory of the flag. Don't let your hate for something you don't understand cloud your judgement. I in no way think slavery was even acceptible, but the civil war was not fought by slaveholders. I am a direct descendent of 8 men who fought and died in the civil war to protect their homes in North Carolina, all of which were burned by Northern cavalry, and none of them owned slaves. Don't generalize about what something means and about those who choose to hold it dear to them. I fly the flag in front of my home to remember my ancestors, and to remember that fighting for your home is worth fighting for.While I have dealt with many people who insult the memory of my ancestors with their use of the symbol, that does not have an affect on why it flies over my house. Please have a little courtesy, UVA,UNC,USC,TENN,LSU,Ole Miss, among many others use mascots from the period including many northern schools. Many of the states that were around in those days also have nicknames and modos directly related to the war. Have a little tact please. :usaflagwa
