I agree with this. Welter might not be a great SEC middle linebacker, but the four guys in front of him aren't SEC caliber D-Linemen, based on last night. Kendell Beckwith is getting some time out there and I don't see us stuffing the run with him either. I don't think Kevin Minter would look very good when the D Line can't get off a block and he has Offensive Linemen getting to him every play. Face it, the front 7 sucks. Welter is 1/7th of the front 7, but 90% of your focus. I wish it were as simple as changing middle linebackers, but based on last night, clearly it isn't...
The Defensive Ends aren't great either. Hate to go against the media guide, but wtf have Hunter and Rasco really ever done? They were also getting mauled last night, and I didn't see a great pass rush either most of the time. Hunter looked good running in a TD on a fumble that someone else created, if you wanna give him credit for that..
I agree with this. Put Brockers and Logan in the middle of that defense, and everyone else is gonna look like a better player
No one can make Welter look like a better player. Hes outclassed on this level. He doesnt deserve being singled out for this game because they were inept everywhere. Hes just the white scapegoat. Its tough being a white defensive player in the sec nowadays. You stick out like a sore thumb.
I think the other reason we will be playing more nickel this year is our DBs are our best players. The front 7 kinda sucks....
The Middle of the field got exposed, our interior lineman and our MLB or not very good to say the least, we ARE better when 52 is in the middle without a doubt, he gets off of blocks and is big and physicall enough to handle takles at the line of scrimmage and not 7 yards down the field. Our secondary is not bad, but if we can't get pressure with the front four it forces the secondary to have to cover to long, also the scheme of the secondary sits back off of the ball to far, come up and challenge but recievers off the line.
