Yes that's what a lot of people are saying. So nature can create physical deformities and mental ones but it is not plausible that this can happen? That's kind of naive if you ask me.

I agree. This particular 13 year old should have just been content with the bathroom they were given. However, I do think that there are some people that were born a boy but feel that they are really a girl (or vice versa). It's just hard for most people to comprehend because there are so few of them (as a percentage of the population). Most people have a gay person in their extended family or know someone that's gay. Hardly anyone knows a transgender (even if they do, that person probably hasn't felt comfortable "coming out" yet).

Honestly, I had never even thought about transgenders or how they are programmed until the Bruce thing. I like that Lola song but had only ever thought about it from the straight guy's perspective.

Hopefully the transgenders get some dignity through this process while also realizing that their dating pool will be extremely shallow. Hetero men should not feel at all guilty that we'd never date a "Caitlyn", no matter how good looking they were or even if they had their parts removed. It's the exact same as saying that we are not attracted to men.

I understand exactly what you are saying, but I heard that about the Boomers, the X-ers, and the Millennials as well. The WWII generation probably heard it from the Depression generation, too. I think we all have trouble understanding the style of the younger people once we find ourselves not among the younger people any more. But once they get past the "expressing themselves" phase, they pretty much get down to making a living, raising families, getting practical, and becoming suspicious of their children's generation.

Each generation seems to have a need to be different from the people they have been raised by. It's part of growing up, its just that adolescence has been getting very extended in recent decades. Kids don't leave home after high school anymore and get to work or to college. They hang around until the are in their late 20's and get a late start in The Real World.

It doesn't, of course. It's not so much about being with the girls as about being singled out with the "special" bathroom.

I think this shows why that is not a great solution.

Bingo. We can see this already in new schools, medical clinics, scout camps, etc. They are moving away from a few large communal bathrooms and replacing them with larger numbers of small, individual unisex bathrooms. It works on several fronts. First it keeps "third gender" students from being singled out. I mean, California cannot afford to make communal restrooms for each of its six genders! Secondly it solves the problem of not having enough ladies rooms. There can be as many "ladies rooms" as needed. For schools and youth organizations, it prevents many misbehaviors that go on in communal bathrooms. It helps prevent circumstances where child abuse can happen. And they tend to spread these bathroom all around a building, so one is never far away. Finally it gives everybody some privacy.

I have a trans family member and while I would feel comfortable with her sharing a bathroom with my daughter, I know her, she is family and I trust her, I'm not sure I would feel comfortable with my daughter sharing a bathroom with someone I don't know that has a penis.

Would it make a difference if the penis had been whacked off? First meaning, not the second.

Yes, I think so. This is a tough subject.

A straight eye for the queer guy?

The will never have any dignity as long as the media whore types like Bruce Jenner make a mockery of the process.

The idea of "dating a Caitlyn" sickens me.

I agree there are negatives to the Caitlyn Jenner fiasco, but there are also positives.

Positives for him. He is making a lot of money off this. He is also making a mockery of the process and that creates negative opinion for all trannies.
