AU was within striking distance at the end and almost recovered the onside kick. Game shouldn’t have been in reach. I’m fine with taking what the defense gives us, but several times we didn’t. I’m complaining but I’m happy we won and give a lot of credit to Steele and the AU D.
Auburn out coached us for sure at points, they made us run the offense they wanted us to run. And the score showed it. Minus the mistakes the score would of looked a bit different and we were lucky in a few spots too. Hopefully this is a learning experience for everyone. Sometimes its good to be a little lucky.
What are you asking for here? Position vs same position? A personnel grouping on offense versus defense?
What I meant was that I've been hearing a lot of "if we don't beat them this year, when will we ever beat them" and I don't buy into that. What LSU is doing right now on offense gives us a chance to beat them this year and gives us a chance going forward. I don't think this dies when Joe Burrow leaves.
I am asking where you think Alabama has an advantage over LSU in terms of any person involved in the game(I phrased it that way to include coaching staff). You can organize the comparison in any way you want, but I was thinking persons that will be facing each other(e.g., Alabama offense vs. LSU defense).
Nothing was said, Shane. I pointed to a area of the game I think bears noting and you immediately moved to blustering. I'll repeat it under your scenario. IF Auburn has the best DL in the country why aren't they ranked as high as Bama in non-blitz pressure rate? The 31 front Auburn used against LSU was a good scheme. There's little variance when it comes to the rabbit-dime with Bama. If you want a head to head comparison with common opponents you're left with two: A&M and Arkansas. Auburn's defense didn't prove themselves better in either game. I've lost my mind but I've yet to see a smidgen of actual football talk from you on this game. "We comin', baw." True football discussions to be found there, right? Take me completely out of this conversation and just take opinion and measurements by the FPI, or Sagarin, or FEI, or SP+. What do they tell you?
I don't think coaching staff comparisons is something anyone will question. Give Saban two weeks and give Orgeron (with his trusty trapper keeper) the same and ... well, you know. This game is closer on paper than it's been in years. To that there is no doubt. One advantage I see for LSU in this game comes from TE's and RB's going against the ILB's. There are coverage issues there as there are with any team but in this case magnified by lack of experience. I fully expect LSU to move the ball. I fully expect the Tigers to put points on the board. LSU's offense versus Bama's defense comes down to being able to effect Burrow. As mentioned earlier Alabama has been one of the best in the nation in that area. I see LSU with issues at tackle (especially the right side) and don't see a good match-up for LSU with the ends in dime-rabbit. If this game comes down to who has the ball last I won't be surprised. The fact is modern defenses have not caught up or been able to defend a good RPO attack. It can be somewhat limited in its success, but rarely if ever completely shut down. In that aspect Bama has better a better receiving corps. We can definitely take the top two and call it a wash. Beyond that the scales lean to UA. Comparisons from group to group (IE: RB's to RB's) is something I'll delve into this upcoming weekend. Overall, with eight different personnel groupings it'll take a little time to contemplate. Just as one example if we're looking at QB's one has to take into account Tua and how healthy he'll be in two weeks. But, if we look at the overall group, I see the depth factor favoring Bama (Jones vs Brennan.) It likely won't come down to that, but it's certainly a consideration. If it's Jones versus Burrow...then we've got a discussion.
Tells me I'm glad they actually play and don't decide the game by sagarin. Keep thinking that the offense can't keep up. That is some taint level stupid
