So, how do you fix the D?

Our last 3 losses (Alabama,Clemson and now Georgia) all had three things in common. We were leading in the last 2-3 minutes, defensively went into a "soft zone" coverage with a 3 man rush and lost.

When we scored our last touchdown with 4:30 left in the game, I told my wife "we are going to lose."

Seen this scenario too many times.

Have to agree saw so many blown coverages it was frustrating especially on that last Georgia Touchdown drive and the pass play for the go ahead touchdown.

We dont have the supertars weve grown accustomed to. Freak and Ego are damn good but they arent exceptional or game changers. On top of that we dont have any cover CBs. No pass rush or cover CBs and you get what we are seeing. Teams will throw up and down the field on us and gash us with runs.

I put a large blame on coaching though. You have to scheme better for one thing. There is no reason for the pathetic tackling we are seeing. You never see a LSU player drive the opposition back. Theyre always falling forward and breaking tackles. We have far too many communication breakdowns.

As a whole I think Kwon, Beckwith, White, Thompson, and Hunter need more playing time. We also need many of the highly prized DL to step up. We have absolutely no depth on the DL.

Definitely falls on the defensive coaches. The DB coach needs to be more involved and coaching the DBs until they can't be coached anymore. Have them running their defensive plays everyday until they have them engraved in their head.

How do you go into a game with so much confusion in your secondary? That's all preparation and we didn't have any of it.

Players still need to be held accountable but they are still playing hard. It's just a damn shame the coaches didn't push them hard enough in the offseason. Murray wasn't throwing amazing passes in tight coverage, it was all to wide open receivers in the end zone. That is preventable with a disciplined defense.

Well, Miles seemed to suggest in his post-game presser that he wanted to see more guys in on the defensive side. http://theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/7182488-123/georgia-makes-the-last-big That said, I think we all knew this was going to be a tough year defensively on the team with the loss of so many players. Playing those early games to get the new guys experience and time to play together just wasn't enough to mask over the deficiencies we have on that side of the ball. The good news is that we won't be facing many more offenses like this in the league. The bad news is, we may still be good for a loss or two/few with this D. uga came in with the 11th rated D in the conference. There were too many times where our D showed nothing and uga just bent us any way they wanted. The last drive just proves the point. Reminded me of Bama's last drive last year. It isn't all personnel, there seems to be some coaching issue here as well.

I don't know TigerFan90, as bad as Ole Miss played today, which was 100 % due to their douchebag QB putting up bulletin board material for Bama's defensive backfield, they will probably have a great offensive output when we go play them at their place.

I see Alabama, A&M, Ole Miss and possibly even Arkansas putting up at least 31 points.

If we don't get this corrected, we have a potential for at least 4 losses.

I hear you. At the beginning of the season, I had us with between 3 and 5 losses. The O may keep us from the nasty end of that scale, but we still have big problems. On the bright side, not many offenses in the SEC are as good as uga's. aTm, sure, but they have no defense. Still, I am not accustomed to LSU having to win ball games by the shootout. I can handle that with Drew Brees and company, but we have been a defensive football team first for so long, that I am totally out of sorts. lol

I beleive that we have great athletes on defense, but we are not putting a great defense on the field.

Freak and Ego are good players, but they don't provide a lot of push in the middle. That would even be something you could live with if they ate up blocks to keep the LBs clean - but they don't do that either. If Freak still runs a 4.7, maybe they should let him play DE and put one of those giant 300+ pound FR in there to eat up blocks.

Out LBs are small. When the DTs can't keep them clean, the are totally overmatched by SEC offensive lines. That happened repeatedly yesterday and that is why there were such giant holes for UGAs backs. I agree that need to let Beckwith play the middle to have some size there. I would also like to see Debo Jones and Duke Riley get more PT.

Our most frustrating problem to watch is the DBs. Loston is an outside LB. He always has been in my opinion. He has no ball skills, and he is a liability as a safety. However, the biggest problem is the DBs appear incapable of playing the scheme Chief wants to play. I cannot bear to watch Mills and Eugene trying to play together. They are rarely on the same page as to when there is supposed to be help over the top, and even if there was, either Mills disengages too soon or Eugene is not coming over aggressively enough. They are the cause of more blown coverages than I have seen at LSU in the last several years. Chief needs to either find someone to play his scheme, or he is going to have to change/simplify and get these kids to stop thinking and start using their physicial talent to play D.

I'm with 65Grad....with our last 3 losses coming in the closing minutes of games, due to this "Prevent" defense, I think that has to stop. It is easy pitch and catch for them and playing it with 3-4 min left is just stupid. I too knew that UGA was going to score on that drive. That is a bad coaching decision and it has failed 3 times in a row in the same scenarios.

Did UGA go to prevent with 2min left? No. They got pressure on up the middle on Metts. That's how you disrupt the play on a pocket passer. Pressure up the middle. With 2 min left a "Prevent" defense is much more understandable but playing it with 4 min left is just crazy. Especially the way our Offense could move the ball. So what if the D gives up the big play it would get you the ball sooner to tie or go ahead.

I can give Chavis some slack this year. He doesn't have the players with experience and in some cases the talent that he lost. But the "prevent" defense with 3-4 min to go, is all on him.

Freak and Ego are not very good players. They have been way over-hyped! Neither one of them did a thing yesterday. For that matter, they really have not done much their entire careers

I said we had a problem with undersized DE's and it is showing.

I know that Ron Cooper is no longer at Tampa Bay. We need him back. Our secondary is a joke.
