The news here is reporting that it is probably going to be Gene Stephenson, the Wichita State coach. The paper today says that the Wichita, Kansas stations are reporting the same thing. Don't offer to help Smoke pack yet.
Whew!!! That was a close one. I'm glad that Smoke took his name out of contention. Now if the Yankees fire Joe Torre, I'll start worrying again about losing Smoke.
I finally got the time to read the whole article on the OU coaching job. It says a deal is not imminent. It lists the coaches that have been approached - Sunny Galloway (OU Interim HC), Jack Leggett from Clemson, Mike Bianco from Ole Misses, Rick Jones from Tulane, Mike Trapasso from Hawaii, Ray Turner from SC, Andy Lobez from AZ, George Horton from CSF, and Smoke. And of course Gene Stephenson from Wichita State that the paper says is the leading candidate. Another interesting note is that the paper says a lot of players are unhappy that Galloway has not already been named HC, and that some say they will transfer if he is not made the HC. The article isn't real clear, but it suggests that a couple of players will transfer no matter what. It mentions the kid Cochell made the remarks about as being one of the players could transfer, but I wasn't clear on if he will no matter what, or only if Galloway isn't named HC. Things could get a bit sticky in Norman.
yeah i love the fact they fire a guy for non-pc comments and hire a dude who almost blinds an opposing team's player by telling his pitcher to bean him in the ondeck circle. the grass truly is always greener.
