  2. Well, as long as we are going to post parts of an article....

Here's some more of the same article which sounds a Hell of a lot like typical
"Smokescreening" when a coach is looking around. Skip's comments are evasive at best. Here's the part of the article with some interesting comments by Skip.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman, contacted by cell phone during his vacation, said Oklahoma Athletic Director Joe Castiglione has not contacted him for permission to speak with Laval about the position.

"No one called me, but that may still be a possibility," Bertman said.

Senior associate athletic director Dan Radakovich, who oversees baseball operations at LSU, said no one has asked him for permission to speak with Laval.

Oklahoma sports information director Kenny Mossman said Castiglione would have no comment on the report or any other aspect of the search for a new coach.

"Our standard policy is we don't comment on job openings," Mossman said. "The school won't make any statement with regard to the search."

Mossman said OU has no timetable for hiring a coach but wants to fill the spot as soon as possible without compromising quality. The job came open May 1 when longtime Sooners coach Larry Cochell resigned after apologizing for making racially insensitive remarks during two off-camera interviews with ESPN.

Interim coach Sunny Golloway interviewed for the job late last month.

Bertman said he and Castiglione discussed some potential candidates, but Bertman said Castiglione never asked him about Laval.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

So we are supposed to believe that Skip is doing consultant work for OU and their baseball coaching search and that Smoke's name never came up in conversation. Then there's the comment by Skip, "No one has contacted me
but that may still be a possibility".

    Hmmm?
  3. Re: Well, as long as we are going to post parts of an article....

Sounds like the saban deal all over again, except this time we want the guy to go...
  4. Lord knows no one around LSU will trust what a coach says about interviewing for another job for a long, long time.

By the way, that is an awful likeness of RP in that signature.
  5. Four non-denials and a hint from Skip. This means Smoke is considering the possibility. Smoke has enough fan base problems without courting another job. If Skips takes an Oklahoma interview it means he has already been offered the job and plans to accept it.

Meanwhile he must issue non-denials. If we start hearing flat denials, then Smoke is staying.
  6. Ok, well...I just wish he would admit it so I can start bashing him....if he doesn't, I think it still may be a possibility that he hasn't
  7. No it's not, but getting a job at a good institution where the expectations are much more moderate is, and that's why he should go.

Basically, Smoke is saying he doesn't want to deal with the pressures that go with leading a traditionally powerful program.

Fine, but he should not be allowed to "go interview" with Oklahoma. If he's crossed the Rubicon on this one, tell him to keep on walking.
  8. This is a rumor that just won't die. There's something to it.

If Smoke does go to Norman, replacement scenarios anyone? I strongly favor the idea of going hard after Bianco. The guy's a Skip clone.
  9. I would personally not want a coach connected to Skip in any way. There is too much undo pressure they have to live up to. We need a fresh start with a fresh young coach.
