We led the nation in baseball since Bertman took over. I recall when you could go to Alex Box and pick your seat. It was virtually empty.
I was being sarcastic about how long it's been. The point is considering baseball has long held its own in the attendance category, until now. What is the major difference from then to now?
Smoke needs to go....either by his own free will, or by force. Forget that we didn't make the post-season. I've had talks with a few parents of players and all said the same thing: "The players really don't care too much for Smoke--said his 'negative reinforcement' tactics are lost on the majority of the players." I for one can tolerate a disappointing season A LOT BETTER than I can if the head coach is an A-hole.....and I REALLY can't stand it when we're going through BOTH! :dis:
Boy that is the truth. Before Bertman, the stands were so empty, you could come and go as you please. Typically there would be a few folks, and one or two making cat calls or that high/low sound when the pitcher throws back and forth with the catcher. It would be so empty there was an echo. The Alex Box of those days bore more resemblance to an old barn than what it feels like now. Bad Baseball is a tough sport to watch. The game is not fast moving, and most fans - LSU or otherwise - find it grows tedious when their team is in the tank. Other sports offer more minute by minute action, and have an easier time keeping an audience, relatively speaking, when things go bad. The other element in Louisiana is the heat. You must offer a compelling reason to spend three hours in full sun.
I think that a coaching change is probably needed, but it has nothing to do with the players liking or not liking him. Skip was an ass to his players and they could not stand him but they respected his coaching ability and that is all that matters. It does not seem that the current players believe in Smoke and I don't blame them.
