Someone "in the know" told me that if anything happens to Smoke at the end of this season it will be moving him to a job in the AD's office.
It's very simple. Someone needs to ask Skip what is an acceptable level of success on a year in year out basis here at LSU. If he answers it the same way most fans would answer the question, he'd say to be a perennial contender for Omaha. The follow-up question would be, 'Are you concerned that the baseball team is not currently living up to the acceptable level of success'. And, 'Do you think that this program is on track to achieve that goal?' And every time Smoke lets the program slip a little further, the same questions can be asked. On the other hand, if Skip answers that question by responding that he wants the team to be competitive in the SEC, and make the SEC tournament, well then we know that the real problem is with him. Here's the bottom line. Personally, I can't stand Smoke. I have my opinion of what's happening to the program. However, If Skip's goals are aligned with mine, and he demands and expects this program to be a contender on a year in year out basis, AND he really believes that this program is heading towards that goal, then I am willing to accept Smoke as our coach. But, this BS response that hey, things aren't as bad as they seem because Tennessee sucks too, or Florida sucks too. That's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. If this year is an abberation, tell me. Tell me that we will be better in the near future. Don't tell me that it's just too hard to compete in the SEC.
Skip believes that every coach deserves one bad year, and he will still support Smoke for atleast another year, IF Smoke choses to come back. I think it's a very real possability that Smoke will retire after the season, but I think what it boils down to is whether he wants to leave after such a bad season if he's offered the chance to have one more.
I hear a lot of this "Smoke will retire" talk and I was wondering if you guys have anything to base it off of, or if it's just wishful thinking. I don't see why he'd retire under his own power because from hearing him talk, he seems comfortable in his abilities to lead the team...
This is thew quote that did Smoke in with me. He was talking about Daniel Forrer. Well Forrer may not be Ben McDonald, but he ain't the worst either. No coach should call out a player like that. And apparently Smoke's os much harder to his players when the public isnt around. The guy has no class. I guess Skip cares more about camp money than he does the Athletic Department.
skip no longer gets the camp money. I agree and said so at the time. that was despicable that he said those words about forrer publically and is inexcusable. smoke is now feeling the pressure and is not a happy camper given his situation with the unrest fans. Im not sure he wants out but its not his choice and there's a backup plan thats long been in motion.
