What did you believe growing up, was a sign of one's wealth?

I always thought folks with color TV's was rich. We didn't have a color TV till I was late in jr. hi shcool.

I suppose those who had their own pool or a horse were obviously rich.

Just about anyone other than "us" we didn't have shit. I watched the miracle on ice on a tiny b&w tv with a coat hanger for an antenna.

All the other kids drove Ferraris and Lamborghinis and I had to drive my mother's 2 year old Mercedes. Oh, the humiliation.

Actually we didn't have a color TV until I started high school. My first car was a well used 63 VW Beetle. The fender got bent in and was rubbing against a wheel until I took a hacksaw and cut it off.

My umcle Scrooge had a pool but he filled it with money and wouldn't let us go near it

The highlight of my week was when the wife of the plantation owner would give all us kids cotton candy she made out of the same cotton we picked for 16 hours a day.

There was a neighborhood club with a pool where I would swim and play ping pong. My dad would only pay for a summer membership so I couldn't go there after August. The other ping pong players were glad to see me go so they could finally win a game.
