none of them want to answer the question, so i'll put on my s. baptist hat and try. id guess it has something to do with jesus and grace and the new covenant. god did a lot of smiting in the OT but not in the NT. when i was a xtian i treated the OT as basically irrelevant. really just historical.

as to why god hates homosexuality, i dont know. my recollection is that the bible never really answers that. just with vague platitudes. doubt he does hate it anyway. just a few bigots slipped it in there.

 

my points are dead on. you definitely understand the irony of being critical of people making decisions based on faith and then making decisions based on faith yourself because faith-based decisions, by their very nature, do not require a rational defense. and this is the danger of the stupidity of religion. and here is an example, these dudes and their revolting behavior.

and you can say "i know my god doesnt hate fags or whatever" and that is not true. you have no idea, you are making that up. the people protesting the funeral are exactly as right as you, and who are you to question their faith, to question what god has told them? their relationship with their lord is a very personal thing, just as yours is. and you cant know what god is telling them, the same way i cant know what god tells you.

for any assertion you make about what god wants or doesnt want, you should ask yourself, am i so arrogant as to presume to know this? and what does the bible really say?

also your double standard with regard to pot-stirring is absurd. your thread about gun control is nothing if not pot-stirring.

 

Yeah but aren't we in a day and age that someone's God is a manifestation of what the individual thinks is holy. I mean Christianity has come a long way, i dare say it has evovled. Maybe a lot of new age Christians don't believe the bible is the exact word of God, that it is a collection of stories meant to have a underlying meaning. Kind of like Aesops fables.

 

Pot stirring is incorrect. Your purpose was to hijack the thread. If you wanted to discuss religion, you would not have deleted the thread created expressly for that purpose. You hijack quite often and it's comically transparent.

the point of this thread is their using the funerals of those that have fought for this country to be attention whores for their beliefs. that is disrespectful of the very people that fought for their freedom of speech.

 

That would be orthodox Christianity not new age. Going back to the second century the church fathers were discussing the metaphoric natur of things like Adam and Eve, Noah's arc, and the Tower of Babel.

 

i might make a thread called "hey guys guess what, it turns out hitler is terrible". and then when people start thinking about racism or intolerance and how it happens and such, i will remind them: "look, all you really need to know is that hitler is bad".
