Awesome post Brett! I'm sure if USC would've lost to Michigan, they'd still be claiming themselves National Champs. USC most likely would've been there if they did not lose to Cal. In my opinion, they were never really impressive the entire year....sure they put high numbers on the board, but who did they play? When a team beats a highly ranked Georgia team 2 times in one year....hell, that's nothing less than the greatest team in the nation.
I had nothing against USC all season obviously they were a talented team and Pete Carroll is a good coach, however after the rose bowl he appeared dummed down and reminded me a bit of an L A sitcom after the Rose Bowl and BCS controversy. I feel I get enough of the medias influence in every area of our culture and don't need any more of it in football. The series of events that happened after the Rose Bowl tainted USC for me and I will most likely associate media bias, and whining with them for a long time. The whole LA being a big TV market thing really got on my nerves too. I really do believe had we been in USC's shoes our coach and players would have had more class about the situation.
USC did not get screwed. Far from it. They got to proclaim themselves National Champions when, in fact, they were not. I cannot improve on what Brett posted so I won't try. Suffice it to say that, in their hearts, USC wishes they had the crystal football.
Anyone saying that they would not be proclaiming LSU as national champs if we won the Ap, is a LIAR!!!
I posted several posts during last season explaining my hatred of the BCS system and advocating a true playoff system. In several of those posts I expressed the wish that a situation would come about where one or more deserving teams would be left out of the BCS picture. At the time not knowing how LSU's season and rankings would play out I had greatly feared that LSU would be the team left out of the picture but I really had hoped it would have happpened in a season that didn't involve LSU. I still believe that a true playoff system is necessary. There would be a lot less controversy about whether a team deserved the 16th playoff spot than there is about who is #1, #2, #3, #4, ect. We all know that LSU was the best team in college football and they proved it on the field but can anybody honestly say they wouldn't have been pissed if they hadn't gotten a chance to prove it if Notre Dame had beaten Syracuse or if Hawaii had beaten Boise State in two otherwise meaningless games on the last weekend of the season?
no, because if i was usc i would have realized i lost to cal and played a weaker schedule and therefore had no claim to deserve a chance to prove anything. if you want to play for the championship, do this: 1. dont lose at all while playing the toughest schedule possible. 2. if you do lose, pray that all other teams with the same amount of losses played weaker schedules. if they played stronger opponents and lost to better teams, realize you deserve nothing and be silent.
