For me I could care less about USC. They are a non issue for me as a fan. I share disdain for USC no more or no less then Colorado State. Sure they look like buffoons for claiming a National Title. But that is funny to me. Sort of like Al Gore. Sure I will giggle when they lose, but in the Pac-10 that is hard to do.
Who here would disown the AP Championship if the roles were reversed and it was LSU given the award? Would you want LSU to publicly denounce the award and say the BCS is the only real championship? Just curious...
Well you have a point, EVERYONE played under the same rules. And to be very honest sure I would say AP#1 or possibly even AP national champion but good question. But if I was true to myself I would say Rose Bowl Champion, and AP#1 but NOT national champion. Simply because we did not PLAY in the National Championship game.
Your point would make sense if the SEC and the Pac 10 were equal. Is there anyone around that thinks the SEC and Pac 10 are equal conferences? Are you telling me that Nick Saban wouldn't abide by the rules? Bottom Line for me is this... LSU hasn't won a championship since 1958, we get our first one and the liberal media's darling USuck got just as much publicity if not more than we did. Everyone around here realizes what a joke the whole situation was last year when you look at the 2 conferences and schedules these teams played. USC lost to Cal, if they wouldn't have lost to a crappy team they would've made it to the Sugar Bowl. We lost to Florida, a team a little better than Cal I would think. We ALL agreed to abide by the rules of the BCS system and then USuck decided not to in the middle of the game. Sorry but the Pac 10 sucks and USC is the worst champion ever with the schedule they played.
LSU's SOS was 29 and USC's was 37 last year ... this straight from the BCS formula. That's not a huge difference, at least not as big as you are making it sound. And you didn't answer the question ... do you really want Saban and LSU to denounce any national championship that doesn't say BCS on it? Put your emotions aside for one minute so you can objectively look at the situation. Assume LSU won the AP and someone from the Big 12 won the BCS this year ... what would you do? what would you want Saban and LSU to do?
I wouldn't want Nick to announce or denounce a championship, thats not up to the coaches that are involved. I would want Nick to say the same thing he said at the time this was happening, I think we all know what that was so I won't repeat that. We ALL agreed to abide by the same rules and I don't like ANYONE that changes the rules during the game. After all the down years we had, I would've happily taken a trip to the Rose Bowl against Michigan and taken 2nd place in the country. Not everyone can finish first.
The formula used to determine SOS is fundamentally flawed. It uses wins and losses only. That is way too objective, considering the large disparity in conference strength. Teams are awarded the same boost in strength of schedule for winning 2 games against a 13-0 team and an 0-13 team as they would for winning 2 games against a 6-7 and a 7-6 team. That makes no sense. It is very obviously more difficult to beat a 13-0 team than it is to beat two ~.500 teams. Not to mention, the two mediocre teams could be from the WAC, while the 13-0 team could be from the SEC or Big10.
So you are saying that the BCS is the one and only true national championship? Is this correct? This is not a trick question ... you would either say YES or NO to the AP championship ... which is it?
Thank You! Hopefully one day this college football playoff crap will be fixed to make sense. I've never liked it and the more they fix things the more screwed up it becomes. It favors media darlings like USuck no matter what you do. 1)Lets get it together and have everyone play a conference championship or not. 2) Lets get rid of a cupcake game out of conference that everyone plays and is meaningless. 3) Lets start the college football season 2 weeks early so that we can have a playoff system using the bowls along the way. I'm not saying I have all the answers but I am saying some of this makes more sense than the system we currently have!
