And YOU know better than Brian Kelly... twice national coach of the year... about the state and confidence of the team at the time..... right. You're a clown. Kelly made the correct call. The momentum was on LSU's side. The offense began to click in the fourth quarter. You go with the hot hand, not some tossup.
I agree with you. The right call was to take your chances in overtime because teams don't practice two-point conversions very often and this is basically a brand new team.
Good post. Not only that, I think the historical conversion success rate is in the low 40%'s. I'll give an analogy about my own point: You're playing racquetball. You agree to a game. If you're a hot player and your opponent is not, do you agree to play to one point for the win, or 21 points? The answer is obvious. The one point game is a tossup; the longer game favors the hot player.
Look in a mirror. On second thought, don't. How many years experience do you have playing/and or coaching football. Being a water boy and/or cheerleader doesn't count.
I have a lot of friends that are coaches and they all say take it to overtime. Had we had a veteran team, most said they might have gone for the two, but with young, inexperienced squad they all said win it in OT. We had a rookie center, true freshman tackle, two transfers from FIU and East Tennessee State (one was a two-star and the other had zero stars) and a tackle that has been in and out of the lineup since he arrived on campus. Throw in that they have had very little time playing as a unit and the answer is easy - you win the game in OT!
Imo the situation in the Fla St game and the Ala game should be go for 2 100% of the time!! Did you hear Saban try to explain why he went for 2 by going by that stupid chart?? I don't know who came up with 2 point chart crap, but I've seen more games lost since coaches started using that chart than I can count.
Given how poorly our Special teams have played this year, I liked it. Obviously if we failed everyone would be ripping Kelly's ass. However, I didnt even think we would win the game anyway so its all good. I think his decision to go for 2 was more than just winning "that" game IMO. Probably was trying to seize a moment to win everyone else over. He did that. For a year or two at least!
I voted no for this, for the same reason I think going for it was the right call against Alabama. I felt like we were the better, more talented team against FSU, and had all the momentum, so the longer the game goes on, the more likely that advantage will prevail. Against Alabama, that wasn't the case. We were better Saturday night, for sure, but they are still the deeper, more talented team, and they were starting to get rolling. Continuing deeper into OT was an advantage for us against FSU, but it was an advantage for them against Alabama.
