Brian Kelly and his incredibly sloppy, undisciplined team find themselves in an interesting position: One play from the three-yard-line to win the game. I, for one, am furious at playing for overtime, and I think BK has no balls, and I already hate him. But I'm willing to hear the other side.
Too easy to second guess. Would not be an issue if we knew how to block for PAT. I can’t even remember the last time I saw a PAT blocked at any point in game. I would only say…we had all the momentum. What a crappy debut for BK. No offense to Daniel’s, but I would like to have seen If Nuss could hit all those wide open down field receivers. Oh well. L
Extra point kicks have a 99% success rate. 2 point conversations have a 50% success rate. The coaches made the right call. I think LSU would have won in OT.
Setting aside the PAT blunder, which I agree is a freak occurrence. Why is taking a tired team to OT, with its frantic and unpredictable nature, preferable to going for the win right there? I have the ball right now, with a chance to win. Isn't that way better than, "let's tie it and go flip a coin?"
If LSU went for the 2 pt and failed, then the conversation would still be about the coaches making the wrong decision. There is no correct decision here. It’s all subjective based on each person’s opinion of the team. I say kick the 1 pt and play overtime. I liked the way LSU played in the 4th quarter and had faith they could beat FSU in OT.
Here’s how I look at it. 1) Go for the tie, and make it: Yawn, now you have to score yet again to win 2) Go for the tie and fail to make it. You lose. Pathetically. 3) Go for the win and make it. Almost instantaneous legend status 4) Go for the win and fail to make it, affirms faith in offense and sets the tone for an aggressive season.
You and I are so close to agreeing. I also liked the 4th Quarter play - leading me to believe they should go for the win rather than let FSU rest and regroup. Plus, injuries, fatigue, Boutte being a douche......end the game right there, don't opt into 30 minutes or more of additional 50/50 football.
Two points. From my point of view LSU didn't show me anything to prove overtime would have been any different from the rest of the game. Go for two and live with the decision.
